What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Great looking truck and a great bumper. I LOVE mine.

 

No - it replaces the factory bumper.

 

On the '12 and up models, you need to cut up the factory bumper. So it doesn't totally replace it like the older Tacomas with ARB bumpers.
Look close, you can still see the top of the factory plastic bumper. That's why they stick out farther on the new trucks.

I just made it up to fit the space

 

just measure the midget head to toe and the shoulder to shoulder width, simple enough i suppose.

I see where you made it a bit narrower than the bed so the lid would clear the rails.

 

Take 2 seconds to record the measurements , the bottom has about 1/2" clearance on all sides except the front of the bed . The bedsides slope so it looks like a bigger gap than it is

I want one just like that a bit taller made out of steal or aluminum to withstand weather

 

I was originally going to do a taller toolbox with the same footprint out of aluminum and I still might at some point . Right now my tools are in two plastic totes and a couple tool bags that I take in and out , a bunch of stuff like some recovery gear , ropes , extra cords , shop towels can stay in the truck , and that stuff is currently in my totes , so this arrangement will give me the flexibility of taking my tools in and out without having to move the other crap back and forth with it .

With the cap I don't have to worry about the elements and theft is pretty much a non issue where I am .

I made the top of the chest the same height as the top of the ledge that runs around the inside of the bed so it can be utilized with a back support to haul sheet goods flat

 

Interesting... I wondered why his bumper looked like it stuck further out than mine. I figured it was just the camera angle.

 

I was wondering, you could see that at least parts of the original bumper were there. That takes care of having to get very detailed in the design of the replacement bumper and still not leave gaps.
