Agreed. I held the door for a dude this morning, and he yelled out "Thanks, Bud!". I nearly laughed my ass off.

I saw that story on the National last night , that's an interesting case , he has a legal prescription for medical marijuana to treat his diagnosed PTSD , but everyone was commenting that it is. " conduct unbecoming " of a Mountie , I mean WTF , is his prescription legal or not , if it is then are the RCMP / Feds being hypocritical ?

If people have trouble opening a door knob, they should not live in a house that has door knobs. Why should their problem prevent me from having door knobs in my house?

If you want knobs , unscrew the levers and screw on some knobs

Building codes are written to push building practices / requirements in the direction that the governing body decides is appropriate , in this case the City of Vancouver has decided to move towards adopting the principles of Universal Design because quite often buildings are constructed without knowing who will be occupying them

I don't think the legitimacy of his prescription is in question, does having a prescription mean that an employer has to allow an employee to smoke weed on the job?

Yes , in actuality there is no stipulation on where a person can take a prescription

The mountie in question is already in an administrative position and does no driving

There is no " caught " about it , the RCMP allows him to smoke pot while at work , their issue is a video that was released of him smoking a joint while wearing his dress reds

I feel the same disagreement as you do. Having an uniform seized because of a legit prescription, where is the line now  ? The story is getting big due to an uniform being represented. Otherwise they would have left the common dude alone.

I feel bad for the Mountie taking away the uniform that he has devoted many years to, all for a joint that helps him with the PTSDhe acquired on the job.

If you're doing it on the job, that's a paddlin. If your doing it on your own time, whatever.

To have a police officer do this but putting people away for it is a little bit contradictory. I can see the issue.

While I don't necessarily disagree , people work while on prescription drugs all the time and the officer in question was on administrational duty

Yeah I see what you're saying. Just goes to show how one lapse in judgment can ruin your life.

I fully support the RCMP's decision.

He didn't loose the uniform because he had a prescription for marijuana, He lost it because he decided he wanted to smoke it in public in uniform. There is an image that professionals are required to maintain, and he didn't want to conform.

All he had to do was smoke he joints somewhere not obvious. Also, he did this on purpose. It's not like he was wearing his reds for something else and it happened to be joint time, he put them on to smoke his joint, on some sort of personal crusade to prove that he could.

Anyway, I think the RCMP handled it quite well, if he didn't want to "hide" his joint smoking, they take the uniform (that they own) back. Buddy still has his job and still gets his joints, but the uniform because a non-issue.
