Home built long travel (clean version)

Im posting this because i have a 1996 tacoma (5lug) and love being in the dirt. Not asking advice, if your like to give constructive advice, go for it, if not. Just look. I also want to show those who may not have the means to buy a $3000 lt kit, or just want to build their own stuff. This kit currenty cycles 13.5 inches of travel, strapped and bumped at 12 to save the BJs. Made out of 1/8 plate and 3/16 plate welded with a lincoln 110v welder. All built with $150 worth of material and a brain. Used a grinder and a cutoff wheel to make the plates. First set held for 2 months and is still going strong, im building a second set with what i learmed and bc i have coilovers now.

This kit held really well for being my first ever fab job, i extended them using 3inch box still, just cut, extend, weld. The welds were crappy though and the design was flawed, so before i crashed my truck i decided to revamp the design, build all new lowers and buy coilovers

this is the part that always breaks on these trucks, reinforcing it like this helps ALOT as long as you get the bracket hot

Thanks man and yeah for sure ive been fabbing for about 6 months now,i never claimed it to be pretty haha but it works well for what i do and it will just get better. And the uppers are cut and extended with 1inch solid rod boxed in with 3/16 plate just for those who havnt seen the other thread

 

Just fininshed the whole thread you started the other day. Like I said, it's cool you are making your own shit, just be open to some of the advice given to you. You dont have to take it, but, at least hear em out. Most of them have done the R&D already and know what works and what wont. Anyways, good luck.

 

Im always up for positive, educated advice. That other thread got outa hand and was a pissing match not an advice thread anymore haha. If someone has good constructive advice im stoked to hear it and will most likely take it

finished the bj bracket gusseting today, its not pretty but its strong. My last arm i only plated the sides and top and it held, so this will be able to put up with bigger tires and a 130lb increase in spring rate.
