I've gotten this email three times over the last month or so. What the heck?

    "Dear Donald,

Congratulations! You and your 2012 Tacoma have been identified as being in a unique position right now! Based on what we know internally about you and your vehicle it seems as though with no money down and based on current incentives you would be able to upgrade your current Tacoma into a brand new 2014 with no money out of your pocket and actually lower your monthly payment.

This is truly unique and is something that only about 1% of our current customers fall into. We would love to set up a time to professionally appraise your Tacoma and go over all of your upgrade options in person.

We are available from 9-9 Monday through Friday, 9-7 on Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday, please contact us for a time that works best for you, this should take less than an hour.

With every purchase at Priority Toyota Chesapeake you get the following benefits:

    - Oil Changes for LIFE
    - State Inspections for LIFE
    - Engine Guarantee for LIFE
    - Towing for LIFE

TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS RARE OPPORTUNITY PLEASE CALL AND ASK FOR"

I'm quite content with my 2012, what do they have to gain?

Basically its pretty simple. They can get rid of a new truck to you, sell your 2012 to someone whos in the market. They get some incentive from toyota or whoever for moving a new and a used truck. Makes more money for them, its normal operating procedure. According to my google machine lol.

    take less than an hour.

even if your content with your current year, depending on mileage... this is a smart move.

They assume you're two years into your payments, which will reset to a 5 year (or longer) note to "lower your payment".

I'd be happy to take their offer - my 2012 is paid off......

The whole thing baffles me, they know I paid cash for my truck so they have nothing to gain in financing. Why would they give me a 2014 for a 2012 with 22k miles even trade?

they said lower monthly payments, which means More monthly payments. Sometimes even tho your payments are say...$10 cheaper a month, they could add 12 months. Which they could make say...$100 more off interest versus not lowering you $10 a month.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Plus you have to pay the sales tax on the new one. I say no to the "deal"

Sticker was $29k, I paid less than $26k before trade in, I doubt I could have gotten a better deal. Final deal was $23k with trade in of a 13 year old Pathfinder.

    I wasn't born last night either. ;)

You're on a list with 100 other people that got the same e-mail. They don't know your specifics - they're just trying to get you in the door.

    Probably true.

I'm not the kinda guy that buys new cars every few years, I drive them until they die.

The nerve! A company trying to make money, bastards! This is standard for dealers to do this. Just ignore it.

They make more money off used vehicles, they make a little off selling a new one to you and a lot of selling the used one to somebody else.

Dealerships around here are now claiming they might even be able to "lower your monthly payment" because they can get you such a good finance deal AKA pay less for it over a longer period of time

They would not. It is a marketing ploy to get you into the dealer. 1% my ass. I'll bet they sent those out to thousands.

I get snail mail from the area dealers with basically the same approach. I toss then in the recycle bin.

I get that same email from Priorty Toyota in ChesapeKe all the time. I also get the exact same letter in the mail on a regular basis. I moved back to florida like two years ago, so I am not driving 12 hours for free oil changes..

Yep... I get that shit a few times a month on vehicles I haven't owned in 5-6 years. The worst ones to me are the "extended warranty" letters I get all the time.

Just a typical marketing tactic to get you in the door. 99% of the time your better off (financially) by sticking with your current vehicle. But hey, a huge percentage of car sales are driven by emotion rather than need. Some people get a fix by buying $5 coffee, others get it by buying a new car every year or so.
