Yeah, but don't judge a book by it's cover, they are the sweetest, kindest, most loving dogs you have ever seen.

However, let someone be hurting one of my kids and heaven help you when they got done.

Had several over the years, outstanding family dogs.

Those are two good looking dobes. I had a couple growing up, awesome dogs.
I like the bigger ones like that vs the smaller ones like you see in shows.

Non sequitur, I've needed a spare many times in 51 years, wouldn't drive without one, likely that everyone that's ever driven has/will need one.

OT heaven doesn't know you are

I've never met a Doberman what wasn't a COMPLETE suck up/baby. I know what you mean by them being sweet. It's cool how dogs usually know when something is wrong and act on it.

Not with my truck, but two winters ago I stopped to get gas in my Forester in the Hill Top of Tacoma, which has had a looooong history of gang violence. I lived just two streets down and had never had any issues at this particular spot, otherwise I wouldn't of used it. When I got out this black guy with a "spade" and "club"under each eye that OBVIOUSLY loved the bangin lifestyle walked up and starts in,"Excuse me sir, I was wondering..." and before he could finish I just say "NO SORRY" and walk in to pay for my gas. When I come out, I see him over hanging in the passenger window of this black Yukon on like 24" wheels and he looks over at me and kinda points, so in my mind I just say, "Ok... on your toes Zack" I go and put the nozzle in and start to pump and he comes up to the front of my car saying, "Excuse me Sir, I've got sickle cell anemia, and I need money for treatment but I got jumped last night and I ain't got money for my medicine..." and as he is spewing this shit I hear someone walking up on the opposite side and I look over and its the driver from the black Yukon coming up a little too fast, obviously trying to come up behind me. I sweep my jacket back and put my hand on my Kimber and get ready to kill the fucker if I have to... The most jacked on adrenaline I have EVER been. I look him in the eye and yell "YOU BETTER STAY THE FUCK WERE YOU ARE!" I Hadn't yet pulled my gun cause I had not seen a weapon, but I was not about to take my hand off of it. I tell him, constantly scanning him, Ace of spades and the Yukon for more, " Come around front here where I can see you both" He throws his hands up saying "Yo man aint no deal! Aint not deal!" As he comes around to the front I look at them both and say, "First of all, you keep your hands out of your pockets. I have no cash on me. I am overdrafting my account just to fill up my rig so the card isn't going to do you much good either. You two both get the fuck out of here right now or I will empty your skulls before they hit the fucking pavement!" If I did not have my gun on me, I have no doubt they would of at a minimum beat the shit out of me if not killed me just for a few bucks and a shitty Subaru. To this day, I wont leave the house without some form of protection. My dad was a Green Beret for 16 of the 21 years his was in the Army and between the knowledge I have gained from him on"training for the fight" as he puts it, and Krav Maga for the past two years, I will never let myself get into a position like that again.

I have a few things. I have three 6"+ knives within arms reach of my drivers seat, taser in the glove box, PR24 under my seat, and ax handle behind my back seats. Now that's just the inside haha. Out side I have a shovel, machete, rope, chains, and trailer ball in the bed. Never far from defending myself and who ever is with me. And I also am never without my Springfield .45 XDm and a rifle or shotgun.

Doesn't mean you won't need one tomorrow. Better to have it and not need it.

What if you're broken down or changing a tire on a remote road or trail and you're assaulted?

I have a 2wd in Colorado, I haven't bought that better to have it and not need it fear in 35 years of driving 2wd.

The next guy will say you aren't packing enough and are unprepared.

I'll live my life with less fear, and appropriate judgment. I'll vote for your right to own whatever makes you comfortable though.

It is not about fear, it is about being prepared if the worst happens.

In the end I am ultimately responsible for the safety of my family. The police will do their best, but they are there to maintain general peace and enforce laws, protecting citizens individually is not within their ability to do generally, nor can they be held liable to do so.

Keeping yourself and family safe comes down to using some common sense in what you do and where you go, being aware of the risk, using police whenever possible and last but not least when all else fails defending yourself and your loved ones.

A firearm is not my first recourse, it is my last.

Someone saying they have never needed a weapon or chalking up to fear is in my view the same a saying you do not need fire insurance on your home for the same reasons.

I have never had a house fire, most likely I never will, still would not be without an insurance policy for it.

In the end some will choose not to carry or have a weapon and this course will serve them well.

Others will choose to do so, so far this has served me well.

Two different courses, both right for the individual with freedom to do either, that is one of the reasons we live in what I believe to be the greatest nation on earth.

Like flat tires, home fires are a lot more common than being or knowing someone that would have been better prepared with a gun. I know no one personally that would have benefited from carrying. I personally can't imagine taking the time necessary to feel truly prepared to defend with a gun properly, plenty of accidental deaths from poor gun handling though. With insurance there is a contract and result and recourse, with a gun it's not so clean.

Most will choose not to carry, and this will serve them well.

I support your right to carry and defend yourself, but thankfully most that carry don't ever need it. If your carrying deters thugs into thinking twice about what I might be carrying, then thanks.

I've never seen mace and wouldn't bother with it. I choose a sidearm.

Not sure what 2wd has to do with anything and could not care less what the next guys says. As mentioned, it's not about fear. Judgement is a good thing to have, I have it myself. But you or I can not choose when or where evil may happen. Ever seen a rape tree in the Sonoran Desert?
I spend a lot of time camping/hiking in remote areas of southern Az, right on the border where God knows who is crossing and for what reason. A sidearm is a minimum for me down there. I am firm believer in self preservation.

Most people would not take a knife to a gun fight the odds are pretty high in a situation like that, that they are armed. You pull a knife it's likely you'll get shot. Go back in the store and call the cops.
