Little late to the show... But I pretty much hit 4Lo and lock my rear locker when I leave pavement. I hit 4wd when just so I get closer to hitting my 10 miles per month to keep everything lubed and working well and it is already in in case I need it. Same with the locker, it is already in for if I need it and the wear and tear on everything is minimal. Plenty of guys do just fine DD'ing auto lockers and Konsta has been DD'ing a perma-locked auto locker as well as his welded rear-end or quite some time now with no issues on his 35's.

The only time I don't leave the rear locked is if I know there are long gaps between obstacles or there won't be any obstacles on the trail. When I get to obstacles, I pretty much just long front and rear (unless I am pretty confident I won't need them at all) for 2 reasons. 1. I beat the fuck out of my rig enough on the obstacles that are challenging for both lockers as it is, the extra wear and tear, just to say I did an obstacle without lockers is pointless and 2. I paid good money for those lockers I'm going to use the fuckers! haha There aren't that many obstacles around that truly need that front locker so it helps pay to not do the extra wear and tear as well as make harder obstacles doable.

I personally just get more thrill out of saying "look how easily I did that line" than saying "I did that line without lockers".

We are all IFS and on 33's, we most likely won't ever be full blown rock buggies that nothing is a challenge for, so there will always be those obstacles that are a struggle no matter what, even if they are far and few inbetween, so I enjoy that the locker saves abuse on the little things so I can put up more of a fight and take more abuse on the big things.

I'm never in 4lo unless I know I'll need the torque, and not locked unless I see an obstacle that needs it...introduces more consumable variables to break IMHO

I just put it in 4Lo right off the bat to save me the time of taking it in and out at every obstacle. Unless I know I won't need it at all, or I hit an open high speed stretch, it will stay in 4Lo.

Eh, I don't know that it is any faster than my auto switch. Hell I think I could get into 4Hi and 4Lo faster than JW could with his twin sticked tcase.

I can shift into 4Hi on the fly and it is typically instant. To go into 4Lo I have to come to a dead stop, put it in neutral and then flip the switch, again it hits 4Lo almost instantly and then put it back in gear and go. It's the stop part I don't like. If I am already in 4Lo I can just go right into the obstacle.

4Lo redlines at 42mph for me so I have no problem doing 20-30mph in 4Lo down the trail. If I need to go over 30mph for long periods I will shift into 4Hi.

I hate getting my revs that high for so long, bugs me

My thing with the j shift is more that you actually know it's in 4wd, rather than looking for a light or hearing a click

I have 4.88 gears in the diffs. I run at 2800 rpm at 75 mph on the interstate. haha The high RPM doesn't bother me. I run about 3400 RPM at 30 mph in 4Lo and 4th gear. I need to figure out how to get it to shift into 5th gear in 4Lo and I could get the RPM down some more. You should be even lower because your auto gears are higher than mine and the 1st tcase is geared higher than the 2nd gens also.
Yep. Hopefully one day I will have the Solo LT kit with manual hubs and a twin sticked FJ case and viola. No more 4wd electronics:cool:

I just punched it into a calculator and Cody should run about 2800-2900 rpm at 30 mph in 3rd gear in 4Lo on 33's.

31's? They probably won't move the rpm more the 200 up.
