265/75/16 Confusion

To start of this is not another question asking whether or not 265/75/16 will fit on my stock Tacoma. As a owner of a 08 4x4 regular cab tacoma, I've came to the point where I need new tires. After looking on most of the threads in the wheels and tires forum, I've came to the conclusion that 265/75/16 will no doubtably fit on my truck. I believe the reason behind this being one of the most asked questions comes from the fact that most dealerships and tire stores just dont know if they will fit on the truck or not. I've ran in to people at the dealership refusing to put them on, to people at tire stores advising against it. This puts a hint of doubt in peoples minds not wanting to mess their trucks up. So my question is, Why do you believe some retailers are against going to this size? Any insight would be appreciated.

 

I think the main reason retailers are against it is because your door jamb sticker states the original tire size and they are afraid to get sued if something happens by putting on a bigger tire, even if you you know it's ok.

 

Not messing my truck up? Well they wouldn't dare go to some of the places we're able to take our trucks to 'mess them up' either.

 

most places don't know what they are doing, try going to 4wheelparts and tell them you want a 16" wheel, they will not want to sell them to you.

 

is it a 4x4??

 

265/75/16 is the biggest tire you can fit on a stock prerunner i know, i think itwill be the same for a 4x4

 

just saw your profile and saw it was a 4x4, when i bought my reg cab it had well still has 275/70/r17's..they rubbed but i put a level lift on it and now no problem!

 

My thoughts on a Toyota Dealer not wanting to put 265/75/16's on is because it actually corrects your speedometer and odometer (which I've found to be slightly inaccurate), not sure what anyone elses reason might be. I know for a fact that if I drive 97 miles on my stock tires, my odometer reads 100 miles. I think it's a way for the manufacturer to try and screw anyone out of the mileage part on their lease w/o them noticing. My winter tires are 265/75 and when they go on, everything matches up, 100 miles @ 100 miles, as well as radar, GPS and speedometer all matching speeds.
