I just got my truck, and I want to know if it has the TRD package. I know it has been repainted in some areas, so the badging may have been removed and not replaced. What kind of things are easy to id that will tell me I've got the TRD? It's a 2002 xtra cab prerunner 3rz auto, has 16" wheels and 265/70/16 tires.

check the area left of your steering wheel on the dash for a push button locker switch, if thats there then you have a TRD

nope, it doesn't have the stickers on the bed...I wondered if the bigger wheels were part of the package and I had heard that bucket seats were too. It has skid plates, but I don't know if they are from the factory or not

nope skids wheels and seats can be the same, the other major differance is look at your coil springs, mine is a non trd and has bucket seats had skids and 16 inch aluminum alloy wheels with 265-70-16 tires

Check the area to the left of the steering wheel, it should have a button that says "RR DIFF LOCK". If it has that button then you have the TRD option. If not, then you don't.

Your shocks should be yellow and are made by bilstien, It would also have TRD label on them.

Presence / absence of the e-locker is not an indication. The electric locker was not included in the TRD Off Road Package on 4-cylinder automatics.

Since 1998 Toyota added a new Toyota Racing Development (TRD) off road package. The package includes off road tires, 16-inch alloy wheels, TRD dampers, a locking rear differential, and the TRD graphics. In 2003 Toyota introduced a TRD sport package on the Tundra full-size pickup. This package was not available until 2005 for the Tacoma. This package includes street performance tires, 17 inch alloy wheels, shocks, race inspired hood, and TRD sport graphics. It is also about 200 dollars more expensive than the original TRD off road package.

so maybe? It sounds like I'll have to check for the locker switch and the yellow shocks to know for sure.

You should also be able to have your insurance company (or carfax for that matter) run the VIN number and they would be able to see the equipment your truck had when built.

I have a 2000 prerunner that has 15in rims but doesn't have the rear locker, it's the 2x4 v6, it does have bilsteins though. It also has the TRD sticker but I'm wondering if it was added after the fact?

Does having a locker make that huge of a difference if you have a 4x4?

15" rims were the size included in the TRD Off Road Package in 2000.
