My TP is set at 35PSI with factory size tires (albeit mud terrain). I average between 21-23 MPG depending on how much city driving I have to do. As I've said before, where I have to drive very rarely lets me get over 45-50 MPH so that makes a huge difference. But freeway driving I still get 20+ but I also keep it below 75 so that helps also. I'm very rarely in a hurry to get anywhere and I drive like I have a egg under my foot.

There are so many different variables that come into play that each person's mileage will be different to some degree. I'm completely satisfied with mine.

    Yeah.
265/75/17 is not a stock size. 265/65/17 and 265/70/16 are stock sizes.

Driving around my end of town running errands and the like on shorter trips, I get about 17mpg. My work commute is about 27 miles, more than half on the highway, and I get 19 to 20 regularly even when traffic is heavier (sometime that even helps). Rolling hills, nothing really too steep.

About 17-18 mpg is what I would expect for more stop-and-go type city mixed with some highway driving. Adjusting for your tire size, I don't think you are too far off.

what were your stock size tires? going bigger on the overall circumference of the tire understates the MPH & MPG. If you changed significantly & plan on staying with the new size, a recalibtation of the speedometer/odometer will give you a more accurate picture

Exactly. With larger tires you are actually traveling further than the odometer indicates. Just guessing I would say you are off by about 5%. If you add 5% to your Mpg you aren't getting great mileage, but certainly a little better. You can do the math and figure it out precisely.

How many miles do you drive a week. The difference between 16 and 19mpg driving 50 miles a day 7 days a week is only around
$12 a week. Is this mpg crap really that big of a deal?

My Summer tires are "LT E rated" in the stock size (245/75/16 for me). I run them at 50psi on the road because that's what my tire guy advised or they would "suck my MPGs way down." Only lost about 1 MPG on average. Makes for a harsh ride but not extremely so. I air down the few times a year I take it "off-road".

I'm thinking this along with higher tire pressure in the heavier tires might result in a more palatable MPG figure. :notsure:

Are your hankooks mud terrains? They will really suck your mpg down. Also as has been stated these trucks don't get the best mileage for sure. My old bronco actually got better mileage with a 351

I feel your pain OP, I'm very new to my truck and still trying to figure out why I get such bad gas mileage as well. I'm running 265/75/16 BFGR all terrains and 87 octane with 10% ethanol, my mileage is in the fuelly sig below. Also recently put a K&N filter in, didn't change fuel consumption but the truck needed a new filter anyway

I have P rated Toyo ATII's 265 70 17 PSI at 32 and avg in town 16.5. Auto V6. Weight of tires and wheels are a factor as well.

I'm just upset that I traded my 05 Xterra with 35's and I'm getting the same mileage with 255/75/17! I aired up to 40 last night. I'm seeing a little difference on the ultraguage. I'll do a highway run tonight and see. I guess I can get up to 50? They're Load range E 10 ply (I was wrong when I posted it earlier) and they're rated for 80psi. The jump from 32 to 40 had a noticeable feel difference.

I run mine at 50 psi for road use. That's what my tire guy recommended. Two Summers on them now and they're wearing fine at that psi.

I have one size bigger tires and live in hilly West Virginia, I've never gotten any better than 15.5 mpg. I've learn to live with seeing the gas pumps often.

Since I bought the truck, I've been using fuelly to get my stats. I just finally plugged in my ultraguage last night and we'll see what happens

Are you driving in a lot of stop and go traffic (stop signs, traffic lights, heavy traffic)? Lotta guys out west who don't have to worry about traffic get great mileage cause they don't waste energy braking as often.

I'm disappointed in my mpg, but it is what it is. Taco is really the only viable small truck for me.
