Nope... it is now a device that Toyota (and other makers use) to check the cause of a problem. Be it a accident or a warranty issue. It measures everything about the vehicle.

Yeah... big brother watching. If you have one they were required to tell you when you bought it (Assuming you bought it new).

You have a 07 so you might not have one. If you do they were supposed to tell you. I've even got the paperwork that I had to sign acknowledging that I was informed it was there.

That might be what that is... not sure. But if you have a late model car you most likely have one. The last few cars that I have bought I have had to sign paperwork noting that I realize that there is a "black box" installed in the vehicle.

It's called an EDR or Event Data Recorder , and yes Tacomas have them

Based on its analysis, NHTSA estimated that by 2010, over 85% of vehicles would already have EDRs installed in them, but warned that if the trend did not continue, the agency would revisit their decision and possibly make installation a requirement.

It's in the Airbag control module in front of the shifter, and can be read by one of the TWO (2) readers Toyota USA has CONUS, not through OBD/CAN. I chucked mine in the trash about 7 years ago, and painted over the airbag idiot light.
Here is the PDF link showing pics of the Toyota reader and the NHTSA test of an 06 Taco- http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CFQQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nhtsa.gov%2Fstaticfiles%2Fnvs%2Fpdf%2FNHTSA-Toyota_EDR_pre-crash_validation.pdf&ei=QFF4Uqb1DsikiQKjuYCICQ&usg=AFQjCNFuvqcC2CowrzE5AVNDmSSZmT4VzQ&sig2=Vtnf9RG_eH1UVuf9W2RUUQ

4wd is a beautiful thing to have in hilly snowy areas that i frequent on ski trips... a nice piece of mind...

Plus, only a select few 2wd trucks are bad ass.... real men drive LT 2wd's or normal 4wd's

2wd, I don't wheel although after rejoining the site I wish I could go with the

4x4 instead, and it doesn't snow down here in New Orleans. I never thought I

could have buyers remorse with a taco but I should have went with my gut.:crapstorm:

2WD prerunner base model DC And it's auto, not ashamed at all, I got it 20,000 out the door new. I drive 100% pavement...city and highway and hardly see snow here in VA, no hills or mountains to climb. I would waste my money on the TRD and SR5 package options. The way I saw it make it my own like I have done to all my vehicles.

Coming from the supra forums and being an owner of an 87 turbo mk3...The word "MANLY" is determine on if you have Forced induction. URD supcharger is coming once my warrenty has expired.

Deep sand and 2 wheel drive don't go together. Unless you have 850hp and 2 feet of suspension travel.

Pretty much! When I go play in the sand, if I stop in 2wd I am done, even with the rear locked. haha Just popping it in 4wd will get my moving again though. I do have skinny M/T tires and a lot of weight though. I would do better being lighter, with some wide A/T's.

I assume that means your airbags won't work in a crash?

    Is that correct?

I'll bet he removed the airbags right along with the airbag control box. He doesn't even have the OEM dash in his rig anymore. It is practically a fully caged Race Truck.

He has that thing so stripped down that even with all the extra metal, it weighs less than it did when it came off the lot:eek:
