Are yours 4.5" BS? and how close were yours to fitting, less than an 1"?

 

Yes factory 1st gen rims are 4.5" give or take

 

Mine still are, but I have maximum up-travel compared to you guys. My 33's have been beating back my firewall for me 1 jump at a time. haha

and ya mine are 4.5. i honestly dont remember how close it was. it was dark and cold haha. i hope that extra .5" will help it

 

So are the wheels going with your 33's, 4" BS or 3.75"? If 4" it is going to be close for Mark, unless his wheels damn near fit. Although your tires are about 1.25" wider on each side of the wheel! So if the tire was preventing him from mounting Mark's tires and not the wheels, he will need like 1" spacers or more.

 

Just read back in Mark's post and saw that he said his wheels were 4.5" BS and that it was the wheel hitting the steering arm, so hopefully that half inch does it

 

I'm too lazy to go back and look, are they 15"s or 16"s?

I did the best i could with that even modded my LCA's but with my drop bracket i still cant get into factory specs..

no it doesn't. Your over thinking back spacing. can't think of it like offset.

Back spacing is back spacing. No matter how wide. Its still 4''.

my current ones are 4''

the 35s are gonna be 3.75

Backspacing and offset are 1 in the same they are just measured differently. If you go to a different width wheel, then yes you can't really compare the backspacing between the two, but if the wheel width is the same you can, because the offset and the BS of same width wheels will have the same difference between them.

Let's say both of your wheels are 8" wide wheels. If you have 4" BS on one, it will have -12.7mm offset. The other with 3.75" BS will have a -19.0mm offset. The difference between 19.7mm and 12.7mm is 0.25" just like the difference in the BS and the wheel has been pushed 0.25" further out causing it to rub on the cab more.

Going to a wider wheel with the same BS as a slimmer wheel will also push the tire out farther causing it to rub the cab more. Again, an 8" wheel with 4" BS has -12.7mm offset and a 9" wheel with 4" BS has a -25.4mm offset. This time the wheel will stick out 1" farther than on the 8" wheel, but the difference in offset is only 0.5".

The only thing I don't understand exactly, is the center of an 8" wheel should be 4" right? So why is 4.5" the 0 offset spot for an 8" wheel? I would think 4.5" would be 0 offset for a 9" wheel.

Edit: Got it. Apparently when they list wheel width, the lip of the wheel is not included, but when measuring Backspacing and offset it is and 8" wheels are really 9" wide from lip to lip so the 0 offset is 4.5" instead of 4".

Like i said..back spacing is backspacing. much less confusing then offset.

Yeah, I prefer using backspacing to offset, mostly because I prefer using inches to mm. haha But that doesn't mean that what I said above it wrong. Less backspacing = more cab rubbing but less frame rub because it moves your tire farther out from the steering pivot point so it has a bigger sweep basically.

But measuring is also much easier for the common person. And its the same rim to rim.

thats why we use it more.
