it would be! But it never will happen. There will be such an out cry if assistance like food stamps are cut. hell, just recently the food stamp budget here was cut and people got less. and there was a big sob story special on the news about how it is not so much harder to "feed idaho families" and how all of these people are going to go hungry and suffer. im like good, cut em. i deal with people on ebt daily and they all eat better than i do.

Disabled persons that can't work make up a chunk of people receiving Govt assistance. So, even if minwage was increased, there still would be a need for the Govt assistance program. It would be alleviated a little, but probably not enough to make any positive impacts.

 

I lived off Top Ramen,spahgetti and PB&J all through college. The sight or smell of these now makes me sick.

 

Disabled people excluded , you guys are always bitching about entitlements but you don't think it 's worth it to eliminate some of them ?

aw come on its not that hard do differentiate between the people who truly need it ( yes there are times when everyone needs help) and the people who feed off it.

 

I'd love to see handouts eliminated(disabled/veterans excluded). If welfare were to be eliminated, the people receiving it would riot and create chaos if it stopped. We got pretty close here in the bay area, when word was spreading it would get cut off for awhile during our Govt's "Time Off".

Oh, cmon man. We're talking DC Politics here now. Any good ideas like that will not be enacted. The Republicans have always been pushing to cut welfare spending, because, it is hurting us. However, alot of the Democrats voting base favor welfare spending, but, Democrats are starting to come around to the idea of cutting back on welfare, but not entirely removing it. We now are in threadlocking subjects.

 

Here's an idea.
How about slowing the military-industrial complex, i.e. "Defense" spending?

My 35% federal income tax goes into the big piggy bank. And that fucking piggy bank is being raped in the ass by all the defense contractors making another bullshit new aircraft carrier the navy doesn't need and tanks that the army doesn't need or want.

 

Yup, and rent on most of the South Shore even for 1 bedroom is about a grand per month.

 

I'd totally be up for that. As an example, here in MA there is talk of getting rid of all toll booth workers and making it electronic, which will still cost a good amount of money.

My solution: Require all people on government assistance who do not currently work to put in 20 hours a week collecting tolls. You eliminate hundreds of pork barrel jobs..a tolltaker makes about 60K a year and is almost always there due to nepotism of some sort. The people on assistance might also feel a little better about earning their keep..and it saves millions of taxpayer dollars.

I work 2 jobs just to have things I need and a few things I want. I don't believe someone who earns minimum wage should necessarily have a good sized house, 2 almost new cars, a pool, and other toys like I have.

 

I bet you could get on disability for that.

 

I would be ok with them raising the min wage to around 8-9/hr and maybe add 1-3% a yr.
Alot of it to depends on the area and cost of living. Some areas need a higher wage than that. I just think asking for $15/hr makes these people look ridiculous. As nice as it would be to see the government reduce spending in any area I doubt it would happen.
