Baby girl on the way in just over 3 months. I've heard there are a number of car seats that don't work well in Tacomas. Hopefully some of you have small children in your double cabs and can point me in the right direction to car seats that work well in these trucks. Pictures and prices welcomed.

Also, it would be good to know which ones have not worked well for you so that I can avoid making a bad purchase.

    Many thanks,

Ive had a Graco snugride 35 that worked well, and then now my youngest is in a Britax. Removed the seat back to give move drivers seat room. Ill post some pics tomorrow, its dark now...

Britain Roundabout 55 is a good choice. Didn't bother with bigger than 55, I assume my kids will want to be in a booster seat by then.

I also have a cheaper, older Safety First car seat someone gave us in another vehicle, and my son likes it a lot but may not be as good as the Britax.

While the baby is small, get something like a Graco that you can snap in and out of a base.

When they get too bit for that, go for a britax or diono. The diono's are nice because they're narrow, but still very safe. They have a lot of metal in them. The britax are a great safe seat, too. Both will be be a bit under $300. Expensive, but worth it. Cheap seats have poor adjustability for the child.

    This /\

Graco rear facing where the base stays in the truck. Nothing fancy.

Britax, more expensive but easy in/ easy out, adjustable and safe and tall so that the child can see out well.. Even works good doing 4x4.

Wow, I don't ever remember spending more than $125 for an infant car seat. I usually get them at walmart due to the fact that the return process is easy if it isn't to your liking. I usually have used the Graco brand and find ones that are thick padded and adjustable. I found the head pads on most brands lacking and those universal 'pillows' to support the head are cumbersome to adjust. What I ended up doing is cutting up some foam squares and wedging it in the head rest , so the head rest moves in tighter to protect the head/neck and prevents the head from dropping down to the shoulders when the kid falls asleep.

cant go wrong with graco!! i have this http://www.toysrus.com/product/inde...957.2273443.2256189.2256201&parentPage=family and i didnt get the one with infant carrier attachment because we already had one from a family member but when i found out about this i snatched it up quick. the bessinet disconnects from the stroller so you can face him towards the handle so you can keep an eye on him/her while shes small and super young and when she/he gets older you can flip it around. plenty of storage underneath for the big ass baby bag you'll carry (im super prepared with spare clothes, stack of diapers, multiple bottles of milk, wipes, snacks, toys ,etc.) pretty much if you buy the set with infant carrier you'll be set until he's/she's big enough for one of those combo seats.

or you could get that stroller and get one of those combo seats that go from newborn til toddler or whatever. i think i have one of those too lol.

I dont have a child or ever bought a seat, but i would like to add, due to a car accident involving a 4 month old this past weekend that my fellow co workers worked. i would ask you and everyone else to please get one that has very good cushioning for neck and sits the head and neck level, not over extend or under... there are some that support the head but no support behind the neck.. in worse case scenario (like this call im speaking of) there was head support and not neck support and this child did not make it due to this during the wreck. the straps worked as they were supposed to but there was no neck support in the car seat making the head bounce more than it should... Realize that your baby has a bowling ball on a straw for head and neck, until the child is older the neck is not great support for their own heads...

Thanks guys for the awesome advice! Kind of leaning towards the Graco snap in snap out, for price, protection and convenience. Showed my wife that Maxi Cosi 70 that was $875 and she thought I lost my mind. Even when I found it on eBay for $530 she just rolled her eyes at me for the rest of the night.

Wow that is so sad. Any way of finding out what brand that was so I can avoid it?

Just went through this with my grandkids - 2 of them in the last 2 yrs. We used a Graco (I think) with the bases that stay in the vehicle. They are the cats ass when the kids are small. Try to find ones that the extra bases don't cost a fortune. We found a spare for ours on Craigslist so the kids had a base in each of their cars and we had one in ours. Nothing beats NOT waking a baby to get them in or out of a seat. Now that they are bigger we use a convertable Graco and the kids have Britax. Both great seats with great reviews. Look for ones that are easy to adjust as the kids grow. This is the one we got for the kids to use ....

We fell in love with this pattern

As far as an infant carrier goes, Chico is top notch. I used to sell the things while I was in college and working at Babies R Us (don't joke, lots of hot moms, and a lot of hot moms hot friends buying gifts off the registries... The job had its perks). Anyways, now as a Firefighter I install them for citizens, Chico's just feel more durable. You can buy multiple bases and install them in numerous vehicles, and only need one carrier.

After they're done with the infant carrier, I would suggest a Britax safety seat as your forward facing choice.
