I know nothing about it, as well, but I'm trying to learn more about it. Where do your calories come from? I get a lot of calories from protein and fats, but I also get a lot from carbs. How do you supplement the lost calories? Also, what sources of fats do you eat? I know I can't just eat bacon and eggs the whole time I do it lol. Lastly, on refeed days, how many carbs do you eat? Is it like an entire cheat day? Sorry for all the questions lol

Lots of protein and fats. I honestly eat close to if not half a pound of bacon on most days with 3-4 eggs. Chorizo is great because it has less than 2g of carbs per serving. Lots of chicken, pork, meat and veggies. One important thing I forgot to mention is that when figuring out the net worth of carbs per food item, you subtract the amount of fiber from carbs. Fiber is good. For instance, a low carb tortilla has 13g of carbs and 8g of fiber, therefore netting you with 5g of carbs. Refeeds are usually at night for me. Anything after 5. Oh and I don't count carbs, and I don't eat "healthy" ones like brown rice. You want stuff that'll create a quick insulin response.

I honestly don't worry about fat content. When your limiting carbs, energy needs to come from other places. Such as fats. But now that you mention it, I do actually kind of taper off throughout the day with my fats. Never thought about it before.

Okay, so when on a keto diet, you pretty much get all your fat from your protein? I can't think of any foods that are high in fat, but low in carbs, other than stuff like mayonnaise. The plan I was looking at is to eat extremely low carb Mon-Fri afternoon and carb load Fri night-Sat night. To do so, you eat simple carbs. Thanks

thats how I try and do it.... this is a paleo type way of thinking about it too... if you eat properly fat is a great thing to fuel your body.. but to cut down and shred up, fat's gotta go and be limited to super healthy fats (in moderation)

Yes it does have a paleo-ish thing about it. I kind of use a blend of keto and paleo for lifters. Check out 70sbig.com

This is what I have always wondered.

Breakfast, when I dont do a bowl of cereal, with protein shake. Fresh half apple, strawberries, and a banana frozen in baggies for the week:), organic strawberry yogurt, powder mix, and a whole cup of 0% milk.

Lunch is usually 2 samiches, chips, applesauce, and a fruit or yogurt.

Dinner is either shit, healthy, or home cooked goodness.

I do cliff bar protein bars pre workout usually.

Guess I will stick to this and just get back on the cardio regime to kill the fat. Want to get back down to 18-20% body fat. Nice and healthy. Went from workin in the field to sittin behind the computer. On set of mid-drift fat has finally come upon me. :(

That's not true. A keto diet uses fat as your fuel source, so why would it have to go to get cut? It's just using the fat for energy. The fat doesn't miraculously skip the whole digestive tract and implant itself in your belly fat.

I've been doing the keto thing for awhile, and I have had no issue keeping lean. If I feel like getting a tad bit leaner b/c of the summer, I just limit the carbs on backloading. I still have my ground beef, bacon, eggs, etc. daily.

A good source of fats is tree nuts. I buy walnuts, pecans, and almonds. Mix them in a bag with some raisins and Bam, my own trail mix.

I eat a lot of bacon too but bacon has more fat in it than it does protein.

Since you dont do carbs are you not worried about the carbs from the veggies? or is the carb content low enough to not worry about?

You subtract the amount of fiber from the overall carbs and that's your net carbs. For example; a cooked cup of broccoli has ~5g of carbs. It also has ~2.5g of fiber. Thereby leaving ~2.5g of carbs and that's what I watch.
