I know there's 1" of difference diameter between the 265's and the 285's.

I didn't experience this problem until I put on new wheels and tires. At first I had the 5100's set to 1.75" front, TSB rear. No problem driving in the mountains whatsoever even at high speeds but as soon I as put on wheels and tires, VSC issues started. It's a tad touchier with the 285. A U-turn can set it off.

Try entering a curved freeway/highway entrance and the vsc goes crazy.

not literally. If you listen closely during a turn you will hear some kind of pitch coming from the left side of the steering wheel. Any faster and that's when the beeping and lights, etc... come on. Use an empty parking lot.

    Leveling kit
I added an LRC 3x1 leveling kit to my 2011 Tacoma Off Road, along with a set of V-Rock Recon wheels (with hubcentric adapter bushings) and 285-75-17 Nitto Terra Grapplers........ Well you all know what happened, I was going around a mountain road corner when my wifes truck tried to take me in to oncoming traffic (VSC failure).
After the lift was installed on this truck, it was aligned and VSC was re-calibrated by Toyota. It was under warranty and since the service manager was sympathetic to my problem he tried re-calibrating it several more times, no luck. I decided to throw the worn out stock tires and rims back on the truck and the VSC issues vanished! The Toyota manager said they had a 2013 4runner all stock, except for stock size mudders added that had this same problem. I'm no mechanic but it seems to me like Toyota like all we need is a software fix.
Please beware disabling ABS and VSC could be bad news if you are ever in a serious accident (disabling safety equipment).
    Enough rambling... damn whiskey :D

hmmm, i had something similar, had a tech recalc my yaw sensor to accommodate the lift when the car leans more into banked turns. It fixed my problems. As for these trucks, it doesnt like it when you go fast into turns so just learn to adapt when you drive it.

Don't know, must really be hit and miss.
2 1/2's of lift, 305 70 17 (34') tires. No re-calibrations, but no nannies going off. Now I know we don't have a lot of fast sweeping corner as in mountain roads, but on and off ramps work for building up cornering forces. On purpose I crank into a couple of off ramps to see if I get the beeping nanny intrusion, none yet. Been seriously off camber several times off road, where I always turn off the nannies, nothing going off there either. Just one of the lucky one's I guess.

I just put 285s on last weekend but thankfully haven't had any problems yet. I did go to the dealer after i got them put on and had the tech's re-calibrate everything... mostly for my speedo but i figured while i was there check everything. Thanks for the heads up guys...

Speedo can't be re-calibrated. You may have misunderstood them... or they lied.
