Thinking about going back down to 17 inch wheels soon, what do you guys think about these wheels?

Little update after driving in the greasy/wet ~6" of snow we got today. Holy crap these tires are awful in the snow, even when siped. Even with the extra weight of the topper and two 60# sand bags... very little grip under acceleration in 4x2, i'd say average braking at best. Steering tracked respectably at low speed cornering

Two things i think play in to this result, 1) I've got 4.88's so its pretty peppy-which requires a lighter foot during acceleration so i need to re-learn a bit. 2) My previous tires were 265/75/16 Duratracs which were absolutely amazing in the snow, and i was on 4.10's last winter.

I don't know anything about the auto tranny in Tacomas, but my F150 let me start in second gear. It really helped in slippery conditions. I could kind of lug my way into it with little or no spin-out. If you can do that with yours, it might help. I often start in 2nd with a manual tranny in the winter too. I haven't had the Taco on snow yet, so I'll let you know how that works out. The dealer put new tires on before I looked at the truck, but they are Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, which have mixed reviews at best. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I had them on a 4x4 Ranger and had no issues, so I'm hoping for the best on the Taco. They will have to do for a while due to lack of funds. :(

Just put a new carrier bearing in. Old one is def shot and the new one helped with my drivetrain rattle I have been having but I can't get the new one to stop squealing no matter what angle I mount it at. Any ideas?

I know they're not the best at any one thing, but BFG ATs have treated me right in all four seasons, and off road, since I've been running them circa 1993.

Was in 2-wheel drive most of the day today and still was fine.

I agree, BFG A/T's have been good to me. Good in all seasons and not noisy on the road.

sounds more like a U joint is going out. Most likely the one right at the rear diff. this is what happened to me. 4-5'' lift does that. Need a nice CB drop and axle shims to help straighten stuff out.

I didn't notice any abnormal play in the u joints but I'll be sure to check again. Already have about a 3/4"-1" cb drop. My lower shock mounts are on the axle so I can't do shims till I relocate those. It's def on the to-do list though.

Edit: Are you referring to the drivetrain noise or the squeal? I fixed the squeal. I was thinking since the cb was sealed it didn't need grease... it did.
