Generally speaking, the compressor shouldn't turn on if its under X psi (not sure what the magic number is), since the refrigerant keeps it lubricated. That said, why not buy the stuff and do it yourself?

 

Did the comp come with the proper amount of oil already installed? Where will you dump the freon? When the ac is off the pulley just free wheels. When the system is low on freon it will not engage the clutch so it will still free wheel. You should be fine but Anything Can Happen

 

Stealership called back, dude was apologetic and they'll get 'er done on Friday. And I've got all the highlighted info I originally handed them. He was confused on the 'c' and 'd' setting... Even though I highlighted the one I wanted.

 

you should be fine, as long as you don't turn on the compressor but it shouldn't run cuz normally there is a low pressure switch on them, if you have nothing it will not run, but who knows your car might be special lol

 

I read online to not plug the harness into the compressor. It won't kick on that way.

4 hours later: 1 removed tire, 1 removed alternator, 1 face full of freon oil, lots of vulgar language, and finally....


Now to put it all back together with a new one my ass is cold!

I too had MOPAR more than any other with no major malfunctions, with the exception of the block I pierced with a rod in my Reliant

 

The Explorers were tested before production and were prone to rollovers like the Bronco II was. Instead of redesigning, Ford lowered the tire pressure recommendations on the Explorer.

You're right that the Firestone Wilderness tires (among others by them) were poorly built..and running lower tire pressure only added to the issue.

 

Booooooooo. Dumping freon into the atmosphere is not very nice of you. You could have gone to whatever shop would do the recharge and have them empty the system into a sealed system.
