I was able to pull all of the flares off today. I'm going to get the lines in the clear coat buffed out tomorrow and then put the plugs in. Stay tuned for final pictures and parts list.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I will more than likely be doing this mod soon, maybe painting them black though, we'll see! Thanks for the great idea OP!

So.. Anyone with a lot of miles remove the flares? I never liked the look of mine that much, the lower part of them is all marred up from the stock mud flaps rubbing.

Just curious as to what I will find underneath.. hopefully the paint isn't rubbing off.

Well, I have about 60k on my truck. The only thing I found was a faint line in the clear coat. You can't feel the line with your fingernail so it should buff out just fine.

I am also curious on discoloration. My truck has 130,000 miles but it is a 2011. So I guess miles don't change anything. Just the amount of time is has spent outside.

Where did you get the color matching paint from? I have only found it in touch up paint size bottles.

man i thought about doing this mod a few months ago but hated how my ap bumper sticks out so far.
i opted for the 2.5 inch cut out on the fender and flare with edge trimmming.

a regular bimetal blade on the jig saw and away i went.

ether way, very nice work. it is a must with 315s

I finally got over to the detailer to get the lines in the clear coat taken care of. They were able to get most of it out but the flares actually dented the clear so it won't all come out. I'll try to get home while I still have some light tomorrow and get the plugs in. :)

I sent my vin and paint code to paintscratch.com. Here's what I ordered from them and what I paid.

    1 12.5 oz. Basecoat Spray Can @25.95 $25.95
    1 12 oz. Clearcoat Spray Can @15.25 $15.25
    1 12 oz. Metal Primer Spray Can @13.50 $13.50

If you already have primer and clear you'll only need the top coat. I did have to experiment a bit to get the MGM right. I had to put a coat of gloss black over the primer and then the top coat to get the right color. Good luck.

X2!!! Damn that looks good! I've got indigo ink obviously but I think ima do em in black instead of color match cuz that'll go along with the black out on everything else

I hope you mean flares. I think the truck might look a little funny without the fenders. :D

The nice thing about this is the price. Cheap, but requires a little labor.

    Thanks

I would color match them and rely on the black rubber washer for your contrast. Just a thought.

    Thanks Craig!

I added these pics to the original post as well. Maybe one of these days the sun will come out and I can get a good picture.
