Lmao! No I'm just a universal persuasion device enthusiast.

I had my tool box just to the left of the rubber hammer out of the frame.

We all see the rubber mallet, what our good friend Johnny is referring to is the claw hammer... a tool better suited for wood work and carpentry.

"The tests show that under certain limited conditions -- including a very low volume of gasoline left inside -- a flashback explosion can occur inside a plastic gas can, when gas vapor escaping the can contacts a source of ignition such as a flame or a spark. The vapor outside the container can ignite and "flash back" inside the can. If it does, and if the gas/air vapor mixture inside the can is a certain concentration, that mixture can ignite and cause an explosion of flame."

Wait... so, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... gasoline and a source of ignition should be kept separate? I'm so confused.

So basically it's was Ford's poor design and Firestone got the bad rap because of it...

More like Ford's bad design highlighted Firestone's bad design, causing them to fail. Which in turn highlighted Ford's bad design, causing them to roll over.
And then they bickered over it in and out of court for so long that they both ended up covered in mud.
    :duel:

On the other hand, congress mandated TPMS systems on all new vehicles. So it all worked out in the end, right?

Just seen an accident involving a Camry and a Malibu, both 2012+. Looks like both collided at the driver's side corner. Gotta say the Camry looked worse off :(

X2. Feon is terrible for the atmosphere. We have a capture machine here at work and use it on all the cars. The new 134a is better but its still not good at all.
A decent shop could have captured and recharged your system for $50. Now you'll probably pay more than that just to have it charged because you need to buy the freon all over and just getting the cans won't displace all the air in your system.

I thought pretty much everything was switched to R134a these days, not Freon :notsure: I didn't even think you can buy freon in cans anymore, can you?

You are talking about R12 and yes you can still get it. You can get R12, R13, R22 and R134a. I am sure they prob make more than that but those are the ones that come to mind. None of them are good for the atsmosphere or to be sprayed in your face

    Shops do still have them.

Last I knew of, an individual with an HVAC license could purchase R12 in the small cans from an auto parts store. My 88 Celebrity had 0psi when I bought it. My girlfriend's mother's boyfriend had his license(s), so he bought 3 cans of the R12 and charged it. For 5 more years the system never leaked and blew frosty cold.

You're correct that most all have been converted. Usually if the system had a bad seal or other leak it was just as easy and similar in cost to convert. My folks had a 93 Grand Marquis that they converted. Figure in the mid 90s 134a was standardized, plus the government kept raising taxes and such on the R12 to make it the same or cheaper to convert it.

Actually it's all refrigerant. R12 has not been installed in new cars for a number of years but is still available for a price. The R134a is a newer type, and because it's more commonly used it's much cheaper.

Freon is like a street name and it's still used for all of them.

Oh BTW Alex. $60 is the cheapest I can get you one. But they also have a $65 core fee, so you would need to give them a factory alloy.

since I work in the hvac field I can buy the refrigerant but since its being phased out it cost a arm and a leg to get some for example it cost my company over $800 for 30lbs of r22, and its going to go up until there is no more
