    so how much does these e lockers run anyway? could u do it yourself or is it a PITA to do. and since i have and 02 double cab like Paul's what kind of gears would i go with if im running 285's on the truck?

    E lockers thirds alone run $350, housings are $250 or so. The downside to an elocker swap is that you have to swap the entire axle, not just the third. With 285's I'd go with 4.56 or 4.88 depending on if you ever want to move up in tire size and the amount of highway driving you do.

    All it is is swapping the rear axle and runnin the wiring for the locker ecu. Or you could just set it up on a switch and skip the ecu all together

    I may pass on this right now. but what yall r telling me i just cannot get the gears and put them on i have to get and entire new axle put on the truck to regear it to 4.56? i thought this was a simple process that everyone been saying i guess not.

    No, the Tacomas that came with the E-locker have a smaller axle housing than the regular ones. This means that you would have to find an E-locker rear axle from a salvage yard if thats what you wanted.

    Also, he was just suggesting that you regear your truck because of your larger tires. A re-gear can be done without having a locking diff.

    Oh ok then. that is what i was wondering. so i can still regaer the truck without having to get a locking diff. where do u install the gears at? im assuming in the axle somewhere. Logan keeps telling me that he is going to be getting new gears and axle. but now hes telling me he might not get the axle. cause i ask him why he needed a new axle in the first place if hes just installing gears.
