In New York City, about 100 protesters blew whistles and beat drums while marching into a McDonald's at around 6:30 a.m...

Later in the day, about 50 protesters rallied outside a Wendy's in Brooklyn...

You missed my point.. I never said they were paid by skill level or by the pay was fair compensation for the job done. Lots of people get paid more in compensation then their job is really worth, just as there are many being underpaid.

The fact remains that a many posting here think that those making min wage, either don't deserve more, or should be able to do better. That's just not reality. It's not the cut and dry issue people would like it to be. And just because someone on here was able to pull off getting out of the min wage life, does not mean that everyone can.

I'm sure some people here feel they are getting paid the right wage for what they do, and I'm sure some feel they deserve more. Just as I'm sure others also feel that maybe some of those same people are over paid. It's all subjective to your own situation, background etc.

The point is, that for such a good Christian nation, with a high sense of moral superiority on the world stage, there doesn't seem to be much "help thy neighbour" or "do onto others". No empathy.

We have a lot of immigrant workers here in NC. Many of the fast food places employ a majority of them. From what I see, they take pride in thier job and are always wanting to do it well. What do I not see? I don't recall seeing ANY that live way beyond their means. Inexpensive cars, sharing housing. If you see a local kid leaving McDonalds in their Lexus, you can probably guess what his future holds...Tells me a lot about what we expect of America, and what others expect of America.

#1...America is not technically a Christian nation

#2...Americans are the most charitable people in the history of mankind

#3...American capitalism has lifted more people to a higher economic class than any country in the world...if the place is so awful, why do people from around the world want to come here? many risking their lives to do so.

Pretty much uneventful striking. The union people seem to be leading most of the strikes with actual workers walking behind them.

    correct

The protests are part of an effort that began about a year ago and is spearheaded by the Service Employees International Union, which has spent millions to bankroll local worker groups and organize publicity for the demonstrations.

I see what you mean now, just hearing the word union or strike irks me. 7.25/hr would be rough to live on and you probably would need to work over 40 hrs to have many luxuries.

Ive also worked with the immigrant workers, most bust their ass all day and are happy to do it, I like working with them. For the most part they have good work ethic and positive attitudes.

I was all against this till I thought about how many qualify for gov. aid.

    realistically,
we either force the "cost of living expenses" on an industry that can advance to automation etc to cut those costs down,

or, we put that burden on the taxpayers.

jacking up the wages would push alot of them out of the poverty line and off of gov. aid. Likely, it'd actually cost them more in the end, but theyll find that out soon enough.

not that I'm for screwing with capatalism by any means, but thats what reality is. whacha think?

Might take some of the burden off of government aid, but what if they bump up the income limit for it too.

I'm suprised you can see all that, from way up there on your high horse. We break our backs to help people out in this country. Over time, we see certain people don't really want our help, they just want to keep skipping along on our dime, and not try to improve themselves. This is the attitude and sentiment you are reading in this thread. The people in here are not claiming to be morally superior to anyone. The help and empathy given by TW members to each other, makes your statement look even more idiotic. Take your Canada vs USA bullshit into another thread.
