MotorTrend's 2014 truck of the year award goes, for the second year in a row, to the new Ram 1500. According to their standards for a "redesigned truck", the EcoDiesel in the new Ram was enough to warrant another go at TOTY, and they decided that the Ram, once again, is the best new truck available, stepping over the redesigned GM trucks and the new Tundra.

Should the Ram have won 2014's truck of the year, based on the competition it had?

    Discuss.

Nope I don't think the dodge transmission and air compressor will agree with this statement.

No the new GM trucks are actually pretty nice looking plus the new tundra is better too. The only thing Ram did was add a pos diesel from fiat.

Granted it is a nice looking truck, but Dodge quality in the past has not been up to par and I'd have to see them have reliability over several years to gain any trust in that department, for now it's just a polished turd!

You might want to do some research on the engine.

The truck seems to be doing very well in test reviews. It's getting 26 - 30 MPG out of a full size 4x4. The 8 speed ZF transmission is being used in a variety of very high end cars.

I like Toyota. But, I give credit where it's due. The new Ram is a very well designed truck.

My dad has had two Rams since the re-do a few years ago. His first was a 3500, which he needed like a hole in the head, and held onto for about a year. He now has a crewcab, 4x4 Laramie, and it is pretty impressive. His has all the bells and whistles; air suspension, built in bed boxes, etc. It is a pretty impressive truck. It is also not his daily driver, and he pretty much only uses it to go out in the woods on sat or sun, so he doesn't put many miles on it. He has the 5.7, and gets 20-21 on the highway, and about 16 around town.

I have the same concerns about reliability based off of some personal Chrysler experience, but if I used the truck only once or twice a week, the Rams are pretty awesome. The one thing I don't like is the drive selector knob vs lever.

28 MPG on the highway is pretty insane, also the sticker price is pretty insane..

And it's not a cummins diesel, it's a FIAT motor, I don't know the difference between the 2 but I'm sure it's substantial.
