no i'm a n00b i didn't know that was a thing. I was going to leave my reflectors as high beams.

I don't see why my idea wouldn't work though. the low beam is wired to the bulb like normal and the high beam is wired to the solenoid so then the high beam powers the solenoid trigger instead of a bulb, then the projector solenoid activates, and bam, high cutoff = high beams in HID.:confused:

So I don't see where the splitter fits in

Well think about it your low beams are not wired as high beams. So when you turn your high beams on your low beam lights won't get any type of signal to go to high beams. That's why there is a splitter so you can tap your high beam wire, in doing so that will then sends the signal to the harness thus go to your projector to activate the shield to go to high beams

Negatory. My low beams stay on with my highs..

Yes I understand that but your low beam lights do not get any signal to activate any type of high beam when your turn your high beams on. system thus requiring the splitter. I'm going to assume your high beams and low beams are on different relays on the 4runner

Does the bulb actually get brighter or something? It's still not clicking for me. I believe there are two relays, but the way it's presently wired, the bulb would stay on and the solenoid would activate instead of another bulb? So even though the low beams aren't getting the high beam signal, the projector is and I thought the projector would basically take the place of a high beam by shifting the cutoff

I think AsianAnt can better explain. To me since you have a low beam and a separate high beam that the projector won't get any signal to the solenoid that pulls the shield down to let more light out of the projector for high beams. Your relay for the low beam won't have a signal to send to shift the cutoff.

Yeah I'll wait for him to reply. the way I see it the low beam doesnt need to do anything except power the bulb while the high beam socket goes right to the projector solenoid and powers that

No worries at all man thinking about this stuff out loud is the best way to figure it out until AisinAnt comes in and tells us both why we're wrong :D

Ya, what I'm thinking now is of getting a splitter anyway and wiring the bixenon high beam with the regular high beam for extra light. It would just be hard since the high beam is switched ground. I guess that doesnt matter for the solenoid though since it's taking + and - from the 9005 inputs

zopperman - If you plug in your HB to the solenoid it will work by moving the shield lower to, essentially, project more light out. The only thing with this setup is that your stock HB is just for looks. Meaning, there is no purpose, it doesn't turn on, it just looks shiny from the reflector bowl.

Now if you use a highbeam splitter, you are "sharing" the power. When you turn that controller near your steering wheel to high beams, your OEM HB should light up in conjunction with your H1's doing its think to allow more light to flow.

This of course is going based off your statement that you mentioned earlier, "Negatory. My low beams stay on with my highs.."

Cool, so I understand it
I think I'll get the splitter and keep the halogen high beams too. Was I on point about the switched ground for the high beams not mattering? I thinking blacking out that reflector bowl would look silly. I could do a faux projector with halos but holy money batman at that rate may as well go quad xenon

if I didn't just buy a new suspension...

also, ETA, can I just make my own damn hi beam splitter? It's 15 bucks for shipping from TRS, more than the splitter itself.

which post are you talking about? if #161, you're right. hehe

    Yes, quad xenon.... "cha-ching"

What i would do in your situation is replace the bulb on your high beams so it would match the ones in your low beams. If you are going to run 5000k bulbs (which 5000k is the highest kelvin i would recommend and get myself) then purchase a set of 5000k halogens to go with it.

I dont see why you cant create your own splitter!

Word. I'll get some 5k silverstars or something eventually. Will the wire be thick enough for me to just tap it and use an old 9006 plug that I have? I think I have one or two extra plugs laying around.

If you think i'd melt stuff and would have to get relays, i'll just go ahead and order the TRS one..

The TRS doesn't look anything more than just a clean simple split already done for you. Though check with TRS for confirmation.
