    1) I agree with you completely, I said not enough, meaning that its not enough for most that have that job, to only have one and support themselves.
2)I don't support the whole 15$ living wage, it isn't feasible but I won't be buying Big Macs, and even if I was, its not as much of a hike in cost as you think. Mcdonald's clears so much profit it would make your head twirl. Im glad you were able to move up but everyone is not as fortunate as you. Done with this living wage bullshit, pay workers what they are worth. PERIOD.

I think washington state has the highest national average, or one of them. It's like 9.55 last time I remember.

There was a study done by a university student a few months ago that projected the cost increases needed to support increases in wages at McDonalds and showed that they could provide significant raises with only a small increase in prices.
The problem with the "study" was that it looked at corporate income numbers as a whole, which included income from franchise operations, but it only looked at direct employees of corporate operations, which represents a very small percentage of McD's direct retail employees. I think there are only 2 or 3 corporate-owned stores in SoCal.
It did not account for the franchise employees who would also expect raises, and this money would come from the franchise operator, who does NOT run the huge profit margins of MD corporate, and who has some freedom to set his own prices (we have two MD stores in the city I work in, and the same lunch at both of them has nearly a $2 difference... same holds true for many other fast food places).

Back when I worked at Douglas, the UAW reps kept trying to work everyone into a frenzy over how much upper management was being paid. I took the total salary and benefits package of the top 5 executives at Long Beach and St.Louis and divided that equally among all of the employees at Long Beach and Torrance. I completely ignored the employees at the St.Louis, Melbourne, Yuma, and other US facilities.
Even at that... if all 5 of those executives worked for free and that money given equally to the Southern California employees, it would have only made a difference of $200 per month.

Labor is a HUGE expense in a large corporation, so even a small raise for the employees of a corporation the size of McDonalds creates a huge impact on their bottom line.

A raise that is anything more than a "token of appreciation" when a company has thousands of employees creates a significant increase in overhead costs. This is amplified if the position is subject to overtime.

10,000 full time employees getting a buck an hour raise is over a half million a WEEK, or over 25 million per year once you factor in the employer-funded portions of FICA and other taxes. An employee generally costs the company about 40% more than his base wages.

And now with ACA, we are seeing the same thing on a national scale that we saw in California around 10 years ago when California required that employers with more than 40 employees provide health insurance for employees that work more than 30 hours.
Hours are being cut back, and for small companies that are on the edge of limits, some employees are being laid off to pull a company under the limits. The company that I worked for at the time actually split corporate operations and merged production with another small company that the owner owned, which pulled the larger company down to under 40 (thankfully, did not result in any lay-offs). My pay package included insurance, but the guys on the production line did not have it.
    They do.
If a worker is truly worth more, they are free to leave and go to a company that pays more, or they are seen as being worth more in their own company and promoted.
Due to personality conflicts, I hit a ceiling at Trak Auto and was unable to get bumped up from floor manager to assistant manager. I left and went to Radio Shack. In less than a year, I had my own store, and though my hourly pay was less than Trak, my commissions and operating profit bonuses ended up getting me an income level that I didn't get back up to for almost 10 years after I left retail.
In-N-Out pays well above minimum wage and has for a very long time. In the bay area, back in 1999 they were paying $9 when California minimum wage was still $5.75.

Or not working for minimum wage.

I haven't been able to tell you California's minimum wage without looking it up since 1988.
    My first job paid $2.90
It was a big deal to get a raise to $3.35 in 1981.
It went to $4.25 in 1988, the next raise wasn't until 1996, at which point I was already around $17.
