I'm looking to buy a 2007 Toyota Tacoma V6 Automatic with 190,000 on it. It was used to travel cross country for 5 years to go to GNCC races. I was wondering how much life could be left in it and what I should watch out for? Thanks!

That's alot of miles, hope you'd be getting it for pretty cheap

EDIT: forgot to mention it seems like alot of people on here buy trucks with alot of miles for way too much. I don't see anything wrong with buying a high mileage truck in good condition but it should be priced accordingly

It will last a total of 372,047 miles before it dies. Change your oil and diff oil regularly and don't use 4WD on pavement.

... That's all she told me.

What qualifies as pretty cheap? The truck is in excellent condition.

Maybe some more details on what the truck is, access cab, TRD off-road.

Yes I understand there is no exact number, but more or less guesstimate for when I can expect to replace it. It seems to be hit or miss for these transmissions, either they go extremely quick or seem to never die.

I would be interested to see service records on the vehicle, regular oil changes, differentials and transfer case fluid changes, transmission flush, radiator flush, power steering fluid, serpentine belt, all of these things should have been done a while ago and (in the case of the diff and tc fluids), multiple times.

I checked out the frame and it looks great, some spots but nothing major, better than my 01 Tacomas frame.

The truck I have now has 452,000 miles on it and still going strong, only replaced the fuel pump recently.

I have an 07, the, diffs and TC should be changed every 30K, though that's not set in stone, especially if the guy didn't use 4x4 a lot, but the rear should have been changed regularly especially if he towed or hauled a lot. Toyota says the tranny fluid is good for 100k, that's not true, 190 I would hope the tranny has been serviced by 100K or so. The power steering fluid is not as important but if it hasn't been done it's not a deal breaker. Toyota says the radiator fluid is good for 100k IIRC should have been flushed by now. Again, not a deal breaker because the radiators on these trucks are bigger than the truck really needs anyways which is good. The serpentine belt should have been changed by now too. I think the big thing really is the regular oil changes, it's always said about these trucks is change the oil regularly and they'll run forever. I think more than anything I would want to get the impression that the guy was a responsible driver and didn't abuse the truck and did take care of it.
It's not a bad idea to have a mechanic look over the truck prior to sale, most reasonable sellers should agree to this on your dime. Though the one thing that is not easy to check quickly is the state of the tranny fluid, these are sealed units which means a mechanic will actually have to open the drainplug and let a little out to see if it's burnt.
Good luck, let us know what happens.

Depends on how much and how well it was take care of. Wouldnt want to get a truck then stuff start breaking and pay more for repairs than what you bought the truck for. Someone else already said but check the frame for rust.

I just spoke with the original owner who had it since new and he changed the oil every 5000 miles "religiously". The transmission fluid he said he did it at 100k so I will have it changed when I buy it. This was his daily driver vehicle and by the overall condition of it he did take care of it. Coolant was flushed recently. I will have my regular mechanic look it over for me as well! Thank you for the tips.

To NewYorker when I did check it, it was very minimal for that age, to confirm this I was talking to the previous owner and it only spent one winter in Ohio where as the other winters it was down in Florida from November until April.

I was actually ashamed to post photos of it like that, I would have washed it and cleaned it up more if it wasn't about to snow.

He is asking $9800 for it.

Looks clean and he is asking less than what its worth. Id consider it if I was looking for a higher mileage Tacoma.

I would go for it. Make sure it hasn't been in any nasty accidents and the frame is aright. People love these trucks because they last so long so I don't see an issue going for a higher mileage truck if it's been taken care of. With the money you saved you could afford to fix any small issues that pop up.

No one can really tell you how long someone elses used truck will last. Depends on the maintenance and how well it was taken care of.

Dont be turned away by high mileage, as long as you get a good price.
