So last week driving home from the staff christmas party I was driving on a secondary highway on my way home. It got really foggy out of nowhere I slowed down to approx 80km/h and before I had time to react a deer jumped in front of me. Loud bang and I stopped got out to check deer was nowhere to be seen. Entire front end of my truck got annihilated. Bumper,Lights,Grill, rad, fan and lots of other parts got destroyed.

The worst part is I took collision and comprehensive off 6 months ago. No coverage. The estimate for full repair $9100. Im putting all aftermarket parts in and new total is $6300. Unbelievable.

The truck is paid off with 162,000miles. Im gonna keep it and make it into a great offroader. Been through so much with it. It has never failed me.

Ironic that you live in Red Deer and hit a deer. Or maybe not since they probably named the town that way because of many deer. I guess it was inevitable. Did you have any type of deer avoidance like a whistler?

Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but it doesn't look like the radiator frame is bent, the rest of that can be fixed without too much trouble, you gonna need everything though.

Fucking hell man! That sucks. Sorry to hear about that.

At least you get to do some mods to the front end now. :)

I worry about the same thing all the time. I've got to drive almost 25 miles of country back roads to work and I see dozens of deer each time. That's one of the reasons I got the light bar on the front and drive slow where I know they will be.

    Daaammmnn, son ! That's a gooder !

With that much damage to your truck (and the weather lately), I'd bet that deer is dead... Coyote fodder by now.

Sucks about the "no comprehensive" thing, G/L with the rebuild. Maybe you'll come into some Xmas deals.

    ;)

Sorry for you man. One of the many reasons I'm glad to get a plate bumper. See too many deer out here!

Sorry for your loss. I'll bet the insurance was cheaper by far.

Yeah. The weather has been shit as of late here in Alberta. It should get better soon enough.

    Ditto.

Mom always said that a vehicle worth driving was a vehicle worth full coverage.

Now, that may or may not be the case for a vehicle that's going to be totaled for less damage than it takes to pay for the coverage, which was the case with my '94 Blazer and '95 Suburban... but then again, she used to say that when a year of full coverage was only $600.

I've increased my deductibles to $500, but the only vehicles I don't carry collision and comp are the motorcycles.
I'm considering dropping it on the '04 Rav4 because it is down to the point where its trade value is under $3k, but I know as soon as I drop coverage, someone is going to smack my wife, and with coverage, even though the other company will pay, AAA will handle everything, while without coverage, we will have to deal directly with the other company.

Can't get used parts from somewhere like LKQ for cheaper than new aftermarket?
