PSA is still running deals. I picked up a $30 PTAC Blackhawk lower parts kit and a $40 stock, buffer, tube and spring.

I'll clean the glock at 5k rounds, untill then Ill just wipe off the exterior and add oil after a range trip.

For the AR's, it depends on how much ammo I shoot. If I take it out hunting and only shoot a few rounds Ill just wipe the fingerprints off the outside.

The BCG wont get cleaned unless I shoot 500+ rounds.

A few guys on a local forum got the same LPK and some were a little rough. Some of the guys were wet sanding the parts to smooth them out a bit but, for the price, I figured I'd take the chance.

I just ordered two more cases of M855. It's finally back to normal prices and I figured it was good timing what with the closure of the last U.S. lead smelter.

please dont start that propaganda. it was the last primary smelter and no lead for ammo came from them. ammo lead comes from recycled products. the same company still runs secondary smelters. it's stuff like that being spread that makes the costs go up.

So closing the last primary smelter has zero affect on the secondary/recycle market value?

Less new lead = more demand on recycled lead. PERIOD.

what other industries in the US would need pure lead ingot? i would imagine that most everywhere was already using recycled lead.

"This smelter turns lead ore into primary lead ingots. Some electronic and scientific applications require this extremely pure ‘virgin’ lead, but ammo makers don’t care."

I didn't say they weren't dirty - but, certainly not caked. I shoot two different suppressors, Surefire SOCOM 556 and Thunderbeast 223A.

My dedicated suppressed upper is one made by MSTN - VLTOR upper, Noveske suppressed only barrel, and a Seekins precision rail that swallows the Thunderbeast.

I shoot the Surefire on a MK18 also made by MSTN - Noveske barrel with a Switchblock.

Most of the ammo I run through them is Blackhills MK262 or my hand loads - which is my own MK262 load - shooting the SMK 77 grain cannelure, ARCOMP powder, CCI 41 primers, and Lake City brass.

You're caking may be coming from the fact that your gas port size is not ideal for a suppressor - thus, you're getting a lot more blow-back.

That's one of the reasons why I'm digging the SCAR...integral "switchblock" if you will with the two different setting - 12 o'clock non-suppressed and 10 o'clock suppressed.

Oops, forgot the picture, mine is the 2nd from left:

    I really don't care who's using it.

But...Are you really arguing that less new lead production means absolutely no demand increase on recycled lead?

Why do you think it is that scrap prices for every other metal produced are directly related to new metal production rates? Less new production means less recyclable available.

Demand is demand. Less available be it virgin or recycled, increases the demand on the other.

the first bold is pretty pertinent to the second. if very few places are actually using the pure lead ingot (could be why there was only one left in the US), there is no increased demand.

All these fear mongers are hell-bent on making it sound like ONE smelter is going to have a drastic effect on ammo availability. It's not. It's just not and will most likely not have even a measurable effect on ammo production even years from now.

As long as the general consensus is this in the face of everyone who actually knows ammo will continue to be sparse and artificially inflated in price. Everyone is so damn sensitive anymore and THAT's why ammo is expensive and hard to find. Keep spreading internet folklore.

Hey, Paul Walker died... I'm SURE this will cause a national shortage on ammo so we better all rush out and stock up!!

Sure ammo can be made from recycled lead, but most lead for ammo is not recycled after it's fired. So where does the new lead come from?

Okay, what i think your not getting here is that there were EXTREMELY limited applications for the virgin lead, 99% of the lead being used is recycled, therefore there is no price increase as the supply of recycled lead dosent change

^^^I'm don't know what percentage of the recycled lead produced goes to the ammo industry, but I know what lead is used for ammo isn't recycled.

I know a lot of the larger (indoor / outdoor) commercial and military / LE ranges do recycle the lead shot on their ranges. They'll usually do that a couple times a year. Range 82 in Virginia is currently doing it now and I think they said they collected close to 2,000lbs last year.

Sure, the folks casually shooting outdoors are not collecting their lead. However, most military and commercial ranges collect the lead and recycle.
