My current tires don't even have a rating. I guess they fall somewhere between P and C. They're 57lbs each. The same tire in D rating will be 54lbs.

Yeah with d range + them being re-treads they have a bit of weight to them.

But they were $130 each so I can't complain.

Did you switch the air in the tires over to winter air to increase your MPGs.

They would probably be E, no? more ply = more weight so the higher the rating the heavier the tire. Though some tires have been doing techy shit and making E rated tires that aren't 10 ply, i remmeber reading on t4r.

I plan on going from 305/60r18 to 285/75r16. The tires are roughly the same height, just slightly over an inch more narrow, and slightly deeper tread. So even though I'm moving up to a D tire, it supposed to be lighter. Going from a 18" to 16" rim should save some weight also.

I guess an E tire is "10-ply rated", but might not actually contain 10 plys.

Side note, I just talked to toytec and my stuff will be here on Thursday which means that I need a driveway on FRIDAY the 13, if anyone could lend me some space, that would be awesome. I have something potentially on the works with another member and with a buddy in delaware, but Toytec kinda f'ed up my shipping and it was supposed to be here by wednesday, but not gonna happen.. so my original plan of Thursday the 12 won't work out.

But if anyone wants to spend a few solid hours (3 or so) wrenching on a 4runner that would be awesome :D

it's a pretty easy job, front end is the 05+ tacos, i'm ditching the sway bar, then it's really just 3 top nuts, lower shock mount, yank the c/o out and swap in the new one.

I must be doing something wrong with 265/75-16 mt's and a bunch of wheeling warming up in the morning and doughnuts my average is still 20.2 mpg. That's with the ultra guage and checking it the old school mathematical way. :notsure:

I'm assuming my loss may not be as bad as I think only because I am not calculating for bigger tires and do not have an ultra gauge. Also for those who want to wheel Saturday, hit me up with numbers :) I think I only have Corey's and he's out in penssyltucky.

Ply rating is old school. It no longer pertains to tire. No 10 ply tires contain 10 plies.

Scan gauge < old school math
