Why did you buy a Tacoma instead of the Tundra?

Just wondering why people decided to buy a Tacoma over theTundra. I’ve been to the dealer severaltimes to buy a 2014 Tacoma DCSB TRD but every time I go to dealer I end uplooking at the Tundra and just can’t pull the trigger on the Tacoma when I canget the Tundra for the same money. Ihave a 2000 V8 4x4 Tundra now that is showing its age so I need to pick up anew truck. The 2000 Tundra is theperfect size in my opinion and the 2014 Tundra is bigger than I need. To be honest the new Tacoma is plenty oftruck for what I need, driving in snowy conditions and getting to kayak/fishingspots. But damn, when I see the trucksside by side for the same money I just can’t seem to move forward on theTacoma.

When I bought my Tacoma, the Tundras were quite a bit more. It was also a lot bigger of a vehicle than I needed. I test drove the Tundra and it was smooth but it was also a boat. I was coming from a full sized and looking for something a little smaller that would still meet my needs since I lived in the city. If and when I do go back to a full sized though, the Tundra wouldn't be at the top of my list.

Taco because it is smaller. The streets are pretty narrow around where I live and a full size can be a PITA to maneuver for the wife.

If my garage was 15" wider I'd have gotten the Tundra, but it has to share space besides another car and motorcycle, all side-by-side...and I didn't really want a pickup THAT huge.

When I first started looking in 11' I thought that the Tundra's were too big. I liked the previous generations of Tundra but I wasn't looking to buy a used one. I looked again last year when I was trading my 11' in for my 13' and I found they were still too big. Since that I live in the city it wouldn't be practical. This is partly how come I downgraded in size from a DCLB to an Access Cab. If I ever work out of town, in the middle of nowhere, lots of traveling then I would go back to a DCLB or a Tundra. But at this point in my life a Tacoma is all I need. I do think that the new front end style of the Tundra is ugly though.

Tundra would not fit comfortably in the garage with both vehicles. I really liked the Tundra but it was going to take up too much room wherever I drove and parked it, especially my parking at home and I wanted to use the garage.

Because I needed a truck for work ASAP and did not have time to wait for a Tundra to come in.

You might be able to parallel park a Tundra with a tailgate camera.

As others have stated, I got the Tacoma mainly due to size and space limits. I live in the city, and currently live in a townhome. Driving something as large as the new/er Tundras was pretty much out of the question for me. I was also coming from a small econo car. The Tacoma was already a lot larger than what I was used too. If or when me and the old lady decide to move back out of the city more towards our home town, I may go with a used Tundra. It'll be a while from now since I am just now about to make the first payment on the Tacoma.

As of now, I don't really have enough use to justify going to the larger truck.

    This.

I have had small to mid sized rigs ever since my FJ55 in the 70's. Most rigs on off road 2 tracks are full size and with a smaller vehicles I am usually forced to ride in one rut but the wheels on the other side are normally out of the main rut on the other side giving better traction and helping prevent getting high centered. If the Tacoma was just a little smaller it wouldn't hurt IMO.

Cost, gas mileage for the 5.7 V8 (go big or go home!), and size. Also, I'm not sure how well a typical Tundra would handle in directions other than a straight line. Sharp looking truck though if you don't have far to drive or if you don't mind $70-$80 fill ups each week. Tacoma feels like a good compromise of all the main factors in a truck or any vehicle at that.

Price, MPG, and looks swayed me, plus I did not need the payload ability of the Tundra.

Too big a truck for a gasoline motor. When it comes in a diesel i'll wait a couple years and get one and then it will be used to to haul my Tacoma places.

Size and MPGs ... as the OP stated ... the 2000 Tundra was what I considered to be the perfect size Truck ... slightly larger than a Dakota but still a bit smaller than a "full sized" Truck. Thereafter Toyota decided to make the Tundra gigantic and the Tacoma started growing in size. I have a 2013 PreRunner and have a picture of it in a parking lot next to a 2000 Tundra and with the exception of my Tacoma being slightly slimmer, they are essentially the same size.
To sum it up, I bought the Tacoma because the Tundra is too big ... it won't fit in my garage. Also, I have a friend who has a Tundra and his mileage is atrocious compared to what I am getting in my Tacoma.

Yep. Size, and even worse gas mileage than a Tacoma.
