Coming back from the gym this morning I notice a burnt oil smell think to self better check this out when I get home. Open the hood and the front of the motor is covered in oil:mad: My Tacoma has been flawless for 150k so bummed.

Are there any common seals on these that go bad? Just looking for a place to start my search

I would clean as much of that oil as you can, engine degreaser and a power washer. Run the engine and start investigating

    Agreed.

I'd have to say its the common issue of the timing cover leaking.

It smells like engine oil, the power steering fluid has a distinct smell.

OP, have you checked your PS level?Engine Oil level? Its either a PS hose leak or a timing cover leak, im leaning more towards PS.

Do as others suggested. Buy some degreaser, hose it clean, and idle it and check for leaks. I can imagine you can simply rule out PS vs. motor oil just by checking the levels. I would almost side with those thinking it's PS just because that fluid seems too dark/thick for engine oil that's only 2 wks old.

The issue is your timing cover. Right above the power steering pump, it is leaking out the top/front of your engine...

The TSB stands for "Toyota Service Bulletin", explaining to their mechanics where the leak is coming from and how to fix it. This means it is a known issue, and a problem on all of their 6 cylinder engines 05 - 07. It will cost you $1,500 to fix...approx.

They will NOT help you. My advice is to call and complain. Basically, our engines have a defect from the manufacturer and they are telling us that we need to be under warranty to fix it, even though it is their mistake.

I'M 100% SURE IT IS YOUR TIMING COVER LEAKING OIL, NOT POWER STEERING :)

If enough people complain about it, maybe they will do something to help us peasants. Yes, Toyota see's us as peasants.

It will cost $1,200 - $1,500 to fix. It will take about 20 - 30 hours to fix by the dealer...no joke :(

    Intake manifold comes off...

    Both Valve covers come off...

    All pullies come off...

    Timing cover comes off...

Reverse pattern to put engine back together.

Total cost of project if doing yourself? about $300 for all the gaskets.

You'll have to ask the dealer:) I cleaned it up and traded it for a 2014 Tundra. The Tacoma treated me very well and I have no complaints at all. I had just sold my Silverado and the wife was driving the Tacoma and quite happy until she saw an opening to get into a smaller SUV. I need a full size truck for all of the things I do ( mainly snowplowing ) so she left me no other option:taco: at least that is how I interpreted the situation.

132,000 miles on an 8 yr old vehicle and you are coming unglued over a $1500 repair (that you could get done cheaper somewhere other than a dealer)?

Did Toyota provide a warranty that the truck would be free from manufactured defects forever?

    Are you an only child?

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin, not "Toyota Service Bulletin. All auto manufacturers use this term. A TSB is not a recall and manufacturers aren't going to pay to fix it if you're out of warranty. You found something that isn't perfect on your truck, good for you. So fix it. I can only imagine if you'd bought a Chevy....

    I'm a mechanic and I've yet to see a 4.0 with a major leak.
