    Rob:
My dad landed at Anzio and did not talk about it till he was almost 70. I was in my mid 40's at the time. He told me him and another guy got the short straws and had to stay on the beach with the radios when they landed. The rest of his company was wiped out. It was very sobering and I had already been in Vietnam. WWII Vets are a special breed of men and women.

Those are the worst conditions...and why I've hated this spell of freezing rain fog crap...unusual for here. My rule is: Once we get snow, there should be no temp above 25F until true break up (Spring thaw). Alaska and Mother Nature have yet to adhere to this rule...and I haven't figured a way to enforce it. ;)

 You know we love you Sue. :D

They are indeed. Prayers and thanks for your Dad.

But don't sell yourself short Brother. I have a hell of a lot of RESPECT for you Vietnam Vets...especially considering the politics and some of the public opinion at the time. IIRC that's what initially drew me into this thread on one of my slower nights at work.

THANK YOU for your service. :oldglory:

EDIT: I just processed the whole Anzio piece ... drew the short straws to stay on the beach and the rest of his company was wiped out. How does a guy wrap his mind around that? Don't think I can come close to imagining or find words to do it justice. My SINCERE RESPECT...SALUTE

Good morning all. Ice and sleet yesterday. School opens 2 hours late today for my son.

Finished detailing the Range Rover yesterday. I have to tell you the Rover is a pretty big vehicle. Nice and comfy on the inside.

Photobucket seems to be down this morning so no photos. Will post up a few later on. ;) Well it is really slow.

Mi-17 helicopter: US deal to buy Russian helicopters for Afghans ignites critics

    December 8, 2013

The Pentagon's recent purchase of nearly $1 billion worth of Russian Mi-17 helicopters is raising more questions than answers. The Associated Press reported on Dec. 7 that although the United States plans to provide the new helicopters to Afghan security forces, the Pentagon eluded U.S. companies and chose to purchase dozens of Mi-17 helicopters which are manufactured in Moscow factories.
Despite Senior Pentagon officials assuring skeptical lawmakers that the Defense Department had made the right decision, some members of Congress have stepped forward to question the deal.

Recently Republican Senator John Cornyn, who is the current Senate Minority Whip for the 113th Congress, expressed his opposition to the deal.
“Why are we buying Russian helicopters when there are American manufacturers that can meet that very same requirement?” Makes no sense whatsoever and the Department of Defense has steadfastly refused to cooperate with reasonable inquiries into why in the world they continue to persist along this pathway," Coryn said
Many lawmakers find the Mi-17 helicopter purchase troubling because of the corrupt nature of the Russian defense industry, WebProNews reports. The Department of Defense chooses to remain vague about details surrounding the decision to purchase the Mi-17 helicopters which has resulted in Congressional members to become suspicious of the deal.
Pentagon officials repeatedly mentioned a secret 2010 study that, according to them, regarded the Mi-17 helicopter as the best option. However, it turns out that the study offered a very different story.

No this is not mine. I detail cars on the side at times for extra cash. This Rover belongs to the gentleman that trains me in the gym.

It takes a lot of microfiber towels to detail a vehicle. Many of the towels serve a specific purpose in the detailing process.

Does any company that we contract with that makes military helicopters make one that is not state of the art? I would hate to think we are giving/selling them helicopters we could not destroy pretty easily. Just my thoughts.
