this is one of those questions that toyota nation cant answer, and the toyota website is to crappy to talk about.

it seems that on a base DC, SB, 4x4, V6, auto.

you get power door/windows. but not keyless entry.

now I dont need much, but I would like this truck I plan to barely afford to do ALL I want it to. and I already got the intermittent wiper/cruise control sorted (thanks to all you guys!) I just wanna know.

can you add factory keyless entry to a base?

cause I really want a Base. (because one. the TRD's are too pricey, and two... that SR5 chrome looks almost as shitty as the non matching TRD fenders.)
and it seems that I dont want that many features.. I mean...

beyond the mechanical already listed(base DC, SB, 4x4, V6, auto.), its just.

basic stereo + ipod AUX (will of course do my own stereo later)
power windows/locks (seems standard on base DC?)
cruise control (I believe thats a 30 minute, 108 dollar mod.)
intermittent wipers(around the same as cruise.)
    remote keyless Fob-tasticness. (???)

so. now that I'm done rambling. can I do my own Keyless with toyota parts? and is there anything else you'd reccomend for a base?

short answer is yes if you have unlimited funds and unlimited time. the parts for the factory keyless entry system would set you back a lot of $, you would need a different ecu, wiring harness, remotes, buzzer, etc. Your best bet would be to opt for aftermarket alarm system. Hope this helps

seems odd to me that toyota would make diffrent ECUs for options. i wiuold think that would cost them alot versus just making a single ecu with all the options and just not hooking up a wire or 2 to make them not..HMMM i guess ill have to look deeper into this.

X2 on the aftermarket alarm. I had mine done with a decent alarm for a little less than $200. Supposedly it's an easy upgrade since they are already power locks.

Sorry, I was thinking immobilizer ecu. I'll check at work tomorrow but I'm pretty sure there was something that was really expensive that made this not cost efficient

+1 for aftermarket. I got my AUTOPAGE alarm installed for $260 total, with a life-time warranty from the installer.

well, as long as its seemless and functional, all I want is to unlock my door with a keychain.

if aftermarket can do that. I'm fine!

I have the Base DC 4x4 v6.....Double Cab base models come with power locks and windows, Access Cab and Reg Cab base models are manual...
DC Base does not come with keyless entry standard and it seems like it would be cheaper to add an aftermarket keyless entry or even an alarm for just a little more.
Anyway....keyless entry is only about $120 plus install.

I'm going to ask for this for my next birthday present from my boyfriend. He is going to add a rearview mirror with temp/direction. Adding foglights is cheap and pretty easy also, but I don't need them. Thought about doing the wiper upgrade, might do that sometime. I never looked into adding cruise control either. I've already upgraded the stereo, speakers, wheels, tires, tow hitch and free bilstein shocks.
I love my base model and even with adding everything yourself it will save $$ compared to a TRD.
Good luck with your purchase, seems you will enjoy the base model just fine ;).

I'd be happy with aftermarket so long as it works - whenever I finally buy a base dc.

I bought a 09 4 x 2 AC. It had power locks but no keyless entry. I wanted to buy the FOB from the dealership but they wanted 200 dollars for one. I went to a local installer and paid 159 for the installation and 2 FOB's This included the lights just flashing. I did not want it hooked up to the horn.
