Plasti dipped my stock wheels...

...and im thrilled!! loving the new $20 look. This will suffice until i can afford the real deal. Had some fun with some Xmas lights as well.. =p

 

I think your crazy photo posting is even better! Haha. The wheels look really good. It's cold enough here that I can't paint anything. I wish plastidip came in more colors.

 

looks good. I'm assuming you taped off the tires or did you just cut and peel away what you didn't need?

 

Jeez Louis!! I tried to rotate them I the editor on here but clearly that didn't work. Going to have to fix that. I swear when I preview it it was good. And I'm pretty sure they do have more colors

Nope. No tape. Just put index cards between the tires and the rims when spraying. Removed after each spraying of each coat.

Did you do anything special where the lug nuts touch the rim so that you don't tear the stuff off when tightening them?

 

Noope. Is what it is. Well see what happens. I'm not worried about it. I'm not popping my wheels off on the daily

I still plan to do this, but haven't yet. (just to buy me some time until I get a set of wheels I want) What did you do on the Toyota emblem on the center cap? Did you just peel it off after, or do something else? They turned out nice.

 

If you watch some of the videos on www.dipyourcar.com, that is exactly what he does. He doesn't even take the wheels off the car.

I have a few cans ready to do my wheels once the weather warms up.

 

Forgot about the index card trick. They turned out quite nice. I like em. Center caps, as others have mentioned, look nicely done as well.

 

I popped off the emblems prior to painting. Popped then back in and glued them down after. Was very please with how the center caps turned out. At first I was thinking it would look weird without black lugs, but I actually like the silver lugs on there.

 

Wheels look awesome. I wish I did it before winter hit (looks out window and sees snow).
1) What is the suggested minimum temperature for plastidip?
2) Did you just plugthe Chistmas lights into the bed outlet?

Thanks for the link. I had no idea there were so many options! Never really considered getting my plati-dip on but there are some pretty interesting options to try. I may give it a go.

 

I have also seen where people do a layer of plastidip and then a layer of what ever color spray paint they want. That way its still temporary. I'm not sure how long it last though I just heard that people were doing it.

Good to know. I think I'm going to peel while lightly hitting any hangers with a razor knife. I don't really want to pop-n-re-glue.
