    all car companies will build the occasional turd and sell it to some poor sucker.

    just pull back and look at the few tacoma owners crying into their coffee about timing chain cover oil leaks. our beloved tacomas are not without their own little share of issues.

    brand loyalty is fierce around here. nobody gets me to drink their koolaide. i just like the stuff i own..i dont preach it like a zealot.

    i forgot. my worktruck is a 2008 GM truck. half ton. 103k trouble free miles. same weird driveshaft yoke clunk at some stoplights..but the truck is doing flawless miles..for the most part. ironically, my next worktruck is slated to be a double cab prerunner...TOYOTA. hahah. i am so gonna steal the tailgate..JK.

    So true aficianado about brand loyalty. A friend of mine is on his third Dodge/Ramand every one of them has been a total POS. He keeps them for around five years and then they are just about readyfor the crusher. All three truckswent/go back to the dealer every couple of weeks for one repair oranother. When we kayak/fish in a remotespot he always asks me to take my 2000 Tundra so he won’t scratch his truck. That’s fine with me because I’m afraid we’dbreakdown in his rig. He absolutely loveshis truck and treats it like gold and Dodge repays him by building totaljunk. Funny thing is when this one isworn out at ~75K miles he’ll be back to the same dealer with another check for $40K.

    Reading 8 pages and no one mentions payload? They are trucks after all. I don't really tow anything and don't plan to but I do carry a camper in my Taco. The payload capacity is ridiculous. So I decided to look into a a Tundra and check out payload. 1400lbs. Laughable. Decided to go with the Taco, I rather a smaller truck with almost the same payload. People want trucks for different things I guess, but to me a truck should be able to carry stuff, a lot of stuff. I wanted a midsized truck cause I don't need a big truck and more importantly I want to be able to drive deep up into the mountains and know ( at least have the best chance possible) of getting back with a good reliable truck. Toyota was a no brainer. BUT, if i wanted a full size truck ( excluding diesels) It wouldn't be a Tundra I don't think. It looks nice but for a full size truck the payload is silly. The F150 I was looking at, depending on configuration, I could get to 1800 lbs ( I think, will have to double check) Tundra never came close.

    Edit: Double checked. 1400lbs for the Tundra and 1800lbs for the F150.

    I def am not brand loyal and after owning 3 yota pickups this will def be my last. Only reason I still have this TRD is I payed for it in cash and no payment and currently trying to sell my second home. I have my own shop where I work on cars on the weekends and have never owned a truck built so cheaply.

    My dad bought a brand new Tacoma and traded it in on an F150 after 6 months and my best friend just did the same. Said it was the best move they made. I just went and looked at a Lariat last weekend after my power steering pump just took a crap, rear main seal is leaking oil and my front end needs rebuilding, again.

    I really loved the look of these trucks and had all intentions of building a really nice rig after just having finished my Lightning project. But working on and driving this last yota with its complete shit suspension and realizing just how cheap they are I realize exactly why the American truck market is still dominating.

    For the Tacoma Lovers who despite all the many quality and design flaws still love what they have, nothing wrong with that. Its awesome you are happy with it and no one will probably ever change that.

    Funny thing is I work for the top corporate aircraft company in the world and with the FAA breathing down our necks we have an extremely advanced quality process.

    In one of our monthly all hands meetings, among others Toyotas quality processes was one of the examples of exactly what not to do. Owning one I frowned on this but now find it kind of funny.

    i liked it alot. black on black. a white one would suit me just fine.

    Love the look of the Silverado, and if I can find one optioned out the way I want for a reasonable price, I might just pull the trigger. The only thing that keeps me from diving head in is the resale values of GM and Ford. If for whatever reason a year or two I decided the truck isn't working for me, I expect to take a bath on my purchase trading it in or selling it, but with Toyota you won't...so I think I might wait next year to see if any of the bugs on the Silverado get worked out or surface.

    On a side note, Trucks are starting to advance technologically like computers with the exception of Toyota. A 6 spd Auto will likely give way to an 8-spd or 10 spd by next year. Fuel Economy is going up every other year too which makes it hard to plunk down close to $50K on a newly redesigned truck knowing that the Big 3 will make huge changes in the next couple of years to meet 2017 CAFE standards.

    Just think for a moment, the amount of different models each of the big 3 has produced since 2005. Hard to get the bugs worked out when you change it every 2-3 years.

    I think that's a big part of the reliability of both Tacoma and Tundra and inherent high resale value.

    Toyota is just sitting on their ASS when it comes to the Tacoma. they have really never addressed the short comings from 2005 all the way to the 2014. i liked my truck alot a better back in 2005 and do not see why i would buy another Tacoma till they update it. one guy posted his new dblcab 4x4 dark blue with aluminum rims, looks just like my 05 dblcab 4x4 all the way to same rims, indigo ink pearl, his truck a little lighter color. Toyota reliability is just not what it use to be.

    Enjoying this thread and the posts supporting the idea of non Toyota trucks. It's funny to search this forum for an issue you're experiencing only to find that it's been going on for years. Toyota has definitely enjoyed their reputation of excellence and rewarded loyal customers with a declining product. I think Tacoma got the worst of this.

    It seems like a lot of folks bash on the domestics from back in the day (with no experience in the new stuff), where Toyota boards seem to praise the older trucks and, when not too stubborn, acknowledge some of the disappointments from the new.

    Even after I determined my Tacoma was not as great as I had thought it'd be, I still bought a 3rd gen 4runner (this November actually, almost 250k miles on it). I love it, and prefer driving it over my 2012. Plan to keep that forever, but the Tacoma? It's history as soon as it warms up and I can return it to stock. Would I buy a tacoma again? Sure, if they do something fantastic in 2015 that's competitive in price/economy/capacities/etc. If I had to buy something this minute, RAM. Tons of praise all over the web for the right reasons, not just "Toyota is best my dad owned dodge it sucked dicks fuck the big 3 Toyota always best" child babble. Unfortunately that babble sucked me in 2 years ago.

    ^thats funny. I agree. I bought mine with all intentions of loving it and if it was half the truck the yota nut huggers say it is I would be and probably keep it to the wheels fall off.

    But in all honesty nut huggers are all the same no matter what brand they are rooting for. The motor can blow up 100 times, wheels fall off etc....they are still only going to be happy with "their brand" and continue to argue everything else is junk.

    Only thing is there are a whole lot less Toyota fans than just about anything else. And the only real argument a Toyota fan has is preaching resale value. What should really tell you something is that even when the resale is so high, then why do soooo many more people still go and buy the other 3 brands even though they also cost so much more.

    But the fact of the matter is resale value projections are mostly effected by fleet sales which Toyota has almost none. That drives down these values. Ford of course has HUGE fleet sales and if that ever changed Toyota would probably not even make the list.

    To me I plan to keep a vehicle long term, so resale value isn't a big selling point. I bought Toyota because I saw how good my wife's 96 Tacoma was and how well they took care of her on the buyback. Balance that with my Chevy truck (after being a 20 yr Chevy owner) with its "secret warranty" that I was lied to 6 ways to Sunday and that's why I went this route.

    Would I buy GM again? Not unless they get their act together and make good on the false promises I was made. That's not a fanboy statement, but regardless of the type of transaction who would do business with an entity that has been dishonest with them in the past?

    Toyota got its longevity rep a long long time ago when the trucks and cars only made about 60hp and didn't weigh anything. Of course they will last, no stress on anything. That just isn't the case anymore.
