Thanks everyone for the good advice! I will likely just wait for a good opportunity to get an older yota with a solid front that will be a perfect platform to build on. I may come across a '79 Hilux that doesn't run but costs under $1k so that I can do everything the way I want it. She let her guard down a little and asked what the cost of the build would be on that runner and I said it would cost a lot. Guard went back up. Since I already already have a rig that will tackle lots of trails I still have the best of both worlds and have the luxury of waiting for that perfect deal. That wAy we can have another summer, one where we can actually ride, and then make a more informed decision that won't be so one-sided and forced by me.

 

Just as a future word of advice, remember you have four people to bring along if you go the 79 route. People with families usually end up selling rigs that can only take two people. And remember carbs are a PITA to wheel with

Borrowed my works dewalt angle grinder and it has a flap disc in the box that looks like it would work wonders, any other discs that you or eric would recommend using to not take much metal off but rather strip the paint / rust off quickly?

Well this is going to throw a wrench into things for people who are majorly anti-trailgear.

The bigger question is...are they still honoring lifetime warranties? I think the warranty was lifetime.

I knew Tina would eventually sell or shut down and i think its awesome that she ran it as long as she did. I wish a company like Marlin bought it because TG will now have the birf market cornered
