I'm just guessing. IMO chances are those were for a third brake light on a topper or a dome light inside the topper.

Best way to try and figure it out is to trace the wires.

Take the 2 minutes to unscrew your driver's side tail light. If you see those wires spliced into the wiring behind the tail light, then you found your answer.

Haha I've used less logic to spend more money, so I understand.

So weird. I was getting ready to start a thread on this. I recently installed a topper, and there is already wiring ran, but it doesn't match the harness to the topper. I didn't know where to find one, or what I should use. This forum is insanely valuable.

its a snugtop, but I don't have a dealer near me. I live in obscurity, just north of the land that time forgot.

Yeah, there must have been something there before, because there is wiring with an inline fuse hanging out of a hole under the bed rail. Positive and negative wire. Plug just doesn't fit. But there is also interior lighting in the topper, and also a third wire. Will this still work?

Uh, I'm at work, and don't have any pics. I will explain a bit better.

Inside my bed rail on the left side, there is a harness, with an inline fuse with two wires. I believe a red and black, might be red and white. The topper came with a dome light, and I believe the connector for it, has 3 wires. Two for break/running light and 1 for dome?

Interesting conundrum. Yeah, I would start by pulling that tail light and seeing if those two wires (with fuse) go to the brake light or not.

If they do, and it were me, I'd clip off the topper harness and wire wire it using Quick Disconnects (QD):

That way the dome light is hot all the time and you can turn it on/off whenever. It's ok that they share a common ground, less wiring you have to run if you just pigtail them together. Need to pull the topper off? Two disconnects and ready to go. I had to do that just last week to run new weather stripping.

There's a fuse on my canopy brake light as well. It was there behind the brake light when I bought the truck, so I just left it. Seems a little redundant since the brake lights are fused anyway. So maybe your wires go to the battery and not to the brakes after all. Only one way to find out!

So many variables right now... :)

I've had the tail light out multiple times, never noticed any splices nor aftermarket connections.

The wires are coming from the front of the truck. :notsure:

Well then...make sure there's a fuse in the fuse holder (or use the contact inside the holder) and use a volt meter to test for +12v. If there is, then there's the power for your dome light.

If not, follow the wires down the rabbit hole and see where they go!

Reply to the wrong post? :)

MEH...I have taillights. Not that big of an issue. The topper has an LED brake light. Mine are stock on the truck, so they wouldn't match anyway. lol.
