Hello to all I have a few questions on this shifter willie green33 could you take some detailed pictures of the install when you put yours in ???
the shifter handle in the pic from kit boarder looks as if it is in gears 1-3-5
I want to have a straight stick and would like to see what the clearance is in 1-3-5 gears
from the dash. I have built custom sticks before for my hot rods and what I want for my x runner is a pistol grip like the old cudas and challengers from the late 60s and early 70s I custom build wood shifter handles so this is no problem so if willie green 33 if you could take a picture of the base installed with a straight edge or something (12 inch long for reference) with the trans in hi gears held next to where it bolts to the new base this would work great or better yet a 12 flat stick like a paint stick with 2 holes bolted to it would be nice once I get the shifter handle in on my truck which will be short the wood pistol grip handle is 4 1/2 tall I will post pics when done
once in for reference look at hurst cuda shifter http://hurst-shifters.com/?page_id=131&pn=5388575&mk=&yr=&md=&sm=&e=

I can tell you a strait stick probly wont work or be comfy to drive, youll be busting your knuckles on the temp controls,

That said anyone else have theres in yet, ill probly have my ball up for sale dirt cheep in the next little bit. After the custom ball comes through lol. Whats everyone else's thoughts on the product?

I haven't installed mine yet, but I probably will this week. It looks to be made very well. How was the install? Any suggestions?

I see that you have little faith in what a fabricator can do, I have been building cars since to mid 70's and have made a lot of items more complex than what I described above.
it also helps to have a complete machine shop at your house when finished I will post some pics

Not doubting just a strait shifter at the same height i may add will be a temp buster, if you were to make it shorter would it be beneficial still?

Anybody installed another kit yet? I'm about to order mine, but I take my time. I found another Hurst stick that is longer, but it's 4" longer, which is more than I wanted.

The stock lever in this kit has a sideways offset towards the driver of roughly 1". The longer 238 0291 has an even bigger bend to the right of 2.7" at the top.

I haven't taken apart my stock shifter yet, but I suspect it's dead centered, with no offset towards the driver, only towards the back. At least that's how it looks from the outside.

I installed mine last week. You will spend more time taking everything apart, than the actual install of the ss. It's well made, heavy and it looks like the old B&M shifter. It has a nice, smooth, precise shift. Much improvement over stock. Cabin noise is increased, slightly and it takes a little more to put into reverse. I love the ss. Make sure you put your truck in 2nd,4th or 6th when you take the console off. It makes it easier to remove. Quality product 5stars.

Im interested in this and I think its a good medium. (plus it reminds me of my Monte Carlo SS) Anyhow, anyone have a quick write up for an install? How tough is the install?

Nice! Do you feel the length of the shaft is taller or lower than stock? And can you see the shaft go closer to you as it's supposed to have a slight 1" bend towards the driver?

Funny, I get a little bit of transmission noise with the stock shifter and an aluminum billet ball knob. So, there's a lot more going on besides the shifter in keeping the noise under the tunnel.

    Pics would be appreciated.

I don't have any pics, sorry. The shaft is lower than stock and when you attach the stick you don't have a bend. You would have to see it. I was concerned until I received it. Also, I have M1 Abrams shift knob, which is heavy. The knob that comes with it is light in weight.

The instructions that are included are very detailed and self explanatory. I'm going to include an link that details the TRD install. It has pictures and is very detailed as well. Actually, I read it several times before I installed mine. Also, I'm including the link for the shift knob. If you choose to go with the shift knob, the dimensions are found on the http://www.core-shifters.com/servlet/the-531/Core--fdsh--Hurst-short/Detail site.

Just a bit more in first. It's cool after that. It's that way with all the SS that I've researched. Quality product.

I saw written that this is harder to put into reverse than stock, any comparison to the URD SS? Another question, will the stock Tacoma shifter knob fit on this, or is it a completely different thread pattern? Thanks for any info.

The thread pattern is definitely different. These are one of the few SAE threaded shafts, so they only fit 3/8" - 16. So, stock knobs won't fit.

Most aftermarket ones won't either. You need specific 3/8" - 16 threaded knobs, or options like TWM or Speed Dawg that come with fittings for 3/8" -16.

I think the core shifter is easier to put into reverse than the URD from my research. Also, I think its an easier install from what I read too. There are several threads about the urd and the TRD ss.

Noise is def notice able but i fixed mine a little by switching out knobs, the plastic one that comes with it amplifies shifter noise. A custom wood one worked for me.
