What stove are you thinking of using? I would seriously have someone certified and familiar with the concept install it for you. Last thing you want is a roaring fire in the vents fueled by fast moving air from the circulator fan.

No , a dedicated wood furnace is a wood burning appliance meant to only work as a furnace

I am I just don't want to run two ductwork systems through my house and have registers everywhere. I am putting a 8" flu and a 10" because I might need to play with the draw of the furnace.

    You don't get it

I'm not talking about insurance or what your primary heat source is

A dedicated wood fired furnace is a wood burning appliance meant to only function ( dedicated ) as a wood furnace to supply hot air to an air handling system

Which system are you thinking about using ? Got a link ?

Do you already have a chimney designed with proper clearances for the wood burning appliance ?

That thing is interesting but seriously you need somebody with some experience with those systems to design the whole thing together as a system to suit your house plans

and I'm just rattling your cage after our contractor convo but I'm totally serious that not getting insurance that reflects a wood fired furnace is not only stupid but probably not practically possible to hide from building officials and through them your insurance provider

I have a similar wood/coal furnace in my house. It's a Harman, has a thermostat controlled damper with a plenum and blower tied to ductwork. When the thermostat calls for heat it openthe draft door, then heats up the plenum, then when the plenum heats up a thermostat in the plenum turns on the blower and forces air around the stove jacket and up through the plenum.....toasty warmth.

Trust me oz...and geothermal and outdoor wood furnace are not off the list yet. I am on a minimum budget as I borrowed against the equity in my personal house. I really only want to put ductwork in once, because of the financial burden this whole house thing is doing to me. I already paid for sub division, perk test, septic drawings and house plans on my own and day to day living expense. This shit is not cheap when it's your money and not a customers, definetly a reality check.Hell! I don't even make half of what some customers make.

Is it tied into the return or regular ductwork?

Cool Thread, I have used wood heat to offset the gas bill for the last 12 years, and could not be happier!! Saves thousands a year.

My personal house...and first one I have ever built for myself...so I am kinda doing way more research for it because I want to start toying with off the grid stuff. I worked with micro-hydroelectric in costa rica as well as solar,wind...so in the north, wood will be a nice compliment for heat.

I have the equipment for the lines....I have the money for the units...but cost add up fast. At least with geo-thermal you get tax credit and do not have to chop wood into your old age. The unit I need for my house size, without a manifold or piping is 4000-5000 alone
