I like Troy rails quite a bit. Have also used Midwest Industries in the past, but their finish is really delicate and they sort of feel cheap. Daniel Defense, Noveske and Geissele all make great rails too.

    cliff notes version:
Troy employs Dale Monroe (Ruby Ridge, Vicky Weaver, Horiuchi’s partner who said he would've taken the shot if he had the opportunity) and they hired Jody Weis, an anti 2A former head of Chicago PD. After a big backlash, Troy fired Weis but has adamantly defended Monroe.

This is what a rifle length Troy VTAC rail looks like on a 16" barrel, since you were asking about longer rails.

Thanks for the pic! I like that rail, not too fat and bulky, and the length looks great.

I can't wait for the new BCM keymod rail, the 13" is suppose to be 7.7oz with barrel nut....

Aside from the political BS with Troy, the alpha rail mountsystem is VERY annoying to line up and I hate it.

My current recommendations would be one of the geissele SMR series rails, the new BCM keymod, the fortis REV, and I can highly recommend the centurion arms CMR 14" because I have it and I love it to death, proprietary barrel nut and anti-rotation tabs so it always lines up perfectly.

The only rails I will ever have will be Troy or MI due stricktly to cost. Granted I am only a recreational shooter... I cant believe what some places are charging for rails (DD)

That's bad ass but I'm scared to look at the price! But that's the type of rail I want, don't need the full length pic rails. I like the length but want to choose where the mounts go, if that makes sense.

So this is pretty much what you want, either this or a keymod, so you can put the rail sections where you want them. A "modular rail". Yes these are about $300 for the 14" and $275 for the 12" or something like that. But centurion makes super low pro rail sections and rad rail covers specifically designed for these.

Parallax tactical also has a decent keymod rail, it's way cheaper if you wanna get something pretty good and pay less. I can't say much about it as I've never used it. Also if you decide to go the keymod route. Impact weapons components makes a ton of keymod items.

Lol I wouldn't steer you wrong, I know a few people in the industry through some friends of mine, Monty at centurion arms is an awesome guy and when I stripped some of my hardware he replaced it at no cost.

Ben over at ar15news.com pretty much posts every single item or deal around, super helpful guy, he can point you in the right direction as well.

Also another reason I stay away from Troy aside from their terrible mounting system is the rail section mounting with the really hard to use back plates, that's now an old thing in terms of modular rails, the new big thing is the keymod rails and stuff that's helicoiled like the centurion, I'll PM you some other rails with a lower price point that you might like.
