I recently purchased a 2014 4x4 Tacoma double cab with long bed (non-TRD) (coming off a totaled Frontier LE)

I've read through a lot this thread and seem to have picked up mixed reviews.

My intent would be to get about 2.5" to 3" and have the back leveled out. So i was thinking 885's with 1.5" AAL's in the back from Toytec (http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/OME-Tacoma-Suspension-lift-kit_p_231.html). (if something sounds wrong there based on my goal, please let me know!!)

My acutal question pertains to the need of longer brake lines, new UCA's, etc. I've seen people post that these things are a must and then seen people post that they're unnecessary. Is there a defnitive answer? Are both things additive for more serious offroaders? or are they needed to protect the integrity of the other parts of the suspension?

If it helps, the truck is my daily driver. The lift would be to allow for larger tires and more ride height with an occasional off-roading trip.

    Thanks Guys

No, extended brake lines are not necessary with the 1.5 AAL. They aren't technically a necessity with a full leaf pack either but it's cheap insurance.

Thanks -- what about UCA upgrades? I've read where people say yes and then people also say not necessary.

It's a hellova good idea for the money. And the improved pedal feel is a bonus.

Most of the time they are not necessary to achieve a good alignment, but some members have had to install them even with only 2-2.5" of lift. I've had my lift in for a couple years and just finally installed LR UCAs, and I recommend it if you have any inclination of wheeling your truck.

No squeaking from the leafs! They're AALs so I hope that won't be an issue. I don't haul enough to justify the Dakars (even though they are universally regarded as the best).

The 90000/60091 are the OME Sport shocks, which is all Toytec sells these days - they're a little softer than the old school ones (N140s), which you can still get at Wheeler's. My pal has the older style OME shocks on his 80 Series (not to be confused with a Series 80) and they are valved STIFF!

If I'm running 95lb bumper and 85lb winch do I want 886 or 885? I don't care about lift height just ride quality.

Probably 886s. Ganna add skids in the future? Right now my truck has 885s, ~80lb winch and a CBI bumper. Not sure on weight but it is pretty light. I really like how the 885s ride with the extra weight. I am one of the guys that thought they were a little to stiff before the extra weight went on. I am just under 2 inches of lift right now, but they ride real nice. After skids my guess is the will be a little to soft, especially when i have passangers or the cab is loaded with stuff. So thats why i am suggesting 886s for you, assuming you will probably add more weight in the future.

He has an access cab, so wouldn't he want the 885's with the added weight and 884's w/o? I know the dc gets 885 with no weight and 886's with weight.

So do i. He will have a very similar setup to me. If he plans on not adding more weight than the 200 lbs he mentioned he could pull off 885s, but with skids or anything else 886s would probably be a better choice IMO

I'm not adding any weight in the near future. I also don't have money for UCA's yet so maybe i'll do 885's now with the whole kit and then I can always upgrade to 886 when I do UCA's or when I have more money and add more weight with skids and sliders.

Evan, What you have sounds like what i want. Do you wish you had 886's? The 885's run nicely with your setup?

I'm worried the 886's will be too stiff and thats not what I want. As long and the 885's can handle the weight It sounds like the right direction.

I think with what i am running right now 885s are perfect. They ride very smooth compared to stock weight. Only downside is i lost a good amout of lift after the added weight, which might be good for you if youre holding off on UCAs for now. My plan is to get my icons rebuilt and go with a higher spring rate when i get around to adding skids. For now i am happy with the 885s and i dont think i would want 886s. But like i said i thought my 885s were a little to stiff to begin with, other people may have different opinions.
