I have a 2006 tacoma 4x4 and the other day I drove it to the store went to go back home and when I put it in reverse it acted as though it was in neutral so I put it in neutral roles back and put it in drive this seemed to work till I hit 35mph and the. As it shifted up to 3 or 4 it acted as though it went to neutral again I got home drained all my fluid filled it back up and tried and again and nothing. I believes it was the selinoid a cause it through a code for shift seliniod d so I went and got a used transmission from a guy in town for 300 and changed all the selinoids a put more fluid in it last night it went right into reverse drove it around the block shifted great until it really warmed up them it did the same thing again. And advise ?????

Pull the neg battery cable for about 30 min.

Also, do you have a CAI?

With the tranny already being replaced, nothing comes to mind.

I also did not change the transmission just the solenoids on the valve body in the oil pan

Whats the mileage on the original transmission ?
break things down for us in steps . Your post is all over the place making it difficult to tell exactly what was done or what is going on .
Step by step , post the problems .
From what I can tell , you lost reverse , then you drained the transmission fluid and had the solenoids replaced .
Then you installed a second hand transmission and now this transmission is also acting up ?
Also : take some time and do some reading . Some really good info at this site .
Loss of reverse is usually mechanical and nothing to do with the ECM ( computer control ) , no solenoids involved .
Here are a couple tips :http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...hift-kit-shift-recalibration-kit-2nd-gen.html

Okay so here is starting over from the begging of my problems. I took my truck to the store at the time it had zero problems when I left the store I went to back out of the parking lot and my reverse would not engage it felt as though I was in neutral. I proceeded to let the truck roll out of the spot and put it in drive that seemed to work okay so I started driving home. On the way home when I hit 35 it went to up shift into 4th gear and it would not engage it felt again as if it was in neutral. I stayed in third gear till I got home. When I finally arrived I checked my fluid it was showing it was good so I drained the pan and filled it back up. After changing the fluid in the pan I went to drive it around the block at this time I had reverse and all my drive gears back 1-5th. Until my truck warmed up for about 20 mins and the it did it again I lost reverse and would not shift up past 4th. While returning home for the second time now the check engine light came up I checked it when I got home and it was a code for the shift solenoid d. I got on line found a transmission in my town out of a wrecked tacoma I went and picked it up and changed all the solenoids out of the one I had picked up and the one in my truck. That seemed to fix the problem for about 30 min then it did it again. Now I am just lost on what else their is to do my truck has 120000 miles on it and has gave me zero problems up until now

Reverse is mechanical , not solenoid controlled by the ECM ( computer in your truck ).
mechanical means wore out valve body or bad seals on the reverse piston or direct clutch piston inside the transmission .
The next step is pressure testing the reverse pressure port to verify you have the correct pressure in reverse , however , you did have the pan off . How much junk was laying in the transmission pan ?
If the pan was full of steel shavings and clutch material , its not worth testing any further . The transmission has failed mechanically and needs to be overhauled .
Did you have the filter off ? was there anything in the filter ?
Was the original fluid black or light brown ?
Did you have the valve body off when you replaced the shift solenoids ?

Did you buy the second hand transmission in working condition ?
You may be better off removing the solenoids from the transmission in your truck and putting them back in the 2nd hand transmission , then installing that one

Here is some reading for you : http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...hift-kit-shift-recalibration-kit-2nd-gen.html

Their was not junk in the pan and the oil was brown I had the filter off but did not get anything out of it I also never took the valve body off!
