I haven't had enough straight shine to make the comparison between good or bad. I'm sure there is a noticeable difference though, especially to someone that drinks it regularly or occasionally.

That would be methanol. It's what comes out of the still first and it's supposed to be thrown away. After the methanol is out, then the ethanol starts to flow and that's what you drink. If you drink enough of it, you can go blind. Not to mention the nasty hangovers you'll get from it.

    x2

You don't want the Methanol. You want the ethanol. like the 185 proof ethanol that I have in my jars.. :anonymous:

MD is technically south, although I agree not really compared to the carolinas and Georgia, but Florida on the other hand is all old people and guidos. Rural Florida is no different than rural MD imo.

And I find it silly that you're arguing that Va isn't south in a moonshine thread, when south/SW Virginia is known for it's shine.. and meth. haha

The real stuff gets its signature taste from the murky creek water they make it with and its ever so smoothness from being filtered through a classic chevy truck radiator, then bottled up and aged for 3 Days serve chilled and goes good with waffle.house take out or fried bologna sandwiches

It counts in the same universe that Smirnoff Ice is considered beer - kidding all the way.

I believe you are correct to a point. You CAN however get a license to distill your own grain alcohol for home-made fuel. The requirement is a specific additive to the mix which makes the final product poisonous to drink.

Laugh all you want. Remember what it MEANS to be "in the south". It comes from the confederate states. The first 7 states that signed the Confederate Constitution were South Carolina, Mississippi, FLORIDA, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Other states that followed were Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Maryland never succeeded because it was voted down, so they are technically NOT the south.

So yes, Florida is technically more southern than some places since they were with the original seven! The problem is that with Disney and Miami, most people only think that is what Florida is about. There is still a LOT of Confederate history there. Florida also has the oldest occupied city in the United States, St Augustine.

You REALLY want to go there when you live in a state where the only thing known to come out is steers and queers? lmao.

Good shine is made from corn. Not this mostly rye crap I've seen floating around the last couple years. Good C:drool:rn liqu:drool:r is smooth as glass. I like the taste of it. It's way smoother and tastier than whisky, bourbon, vodka etc.. which is why I usually end up unconscious at some point.:p

Great thread! Seems like a great thread to throw this out there and get some opinions. There's a guy I work with...thinks he knows everything and is incredibly arrogant, that said the following the other day.

"All moonshine is, is vodka. Every type of moonshine made is just shitty vodka."

I heard that and thought to myself....umm no, vodka is made with potatoes (granted I am here in Maine), but real shine is made from corn which is a whiskey. Am I totally off here on this one?
