Accident Damage

The other day I was on the interstate and with a series of a lot of braking and near hits and I was one of the unlucky guys to be rear ended. The taco held her own and came out seemingly ok as the hitch absorbed the whole blow. The guy who hit me.. well not so much. All insurance info was exchanged and the cops let me go and the other guys car left on a truck.
The thing I'm worried about is any unforeseen damage that I don't see. The insurance hasn't had a chance to do anything yet but I want to make sure everything is checked when they do and its done right. Anything I should look for or be aware about?

Looks like where my hitch attaches to the frame its bent.

 

Vtec kicked in too soon. def get the frame and underside looked at. glad your ok

 

Take it to a shop you trust and let them look at it so you have information to go into the insurance fight with.
In general - The adjuster will set the damage they see to paper and then the company that does the repairs can request additional money for stuff that pops up after the repairs are started.

 

How's the gap between the cab and the bed? You'll want to have a reputable shop determine the severity of the frame damage.

 

if its only bent after the shackles on the frame, let them total it, buy it back, straighten rear of frame and plate/box it, now you have a free truck.

Is it just me, or is there obvious frame damage? Definitely have a reputable shop look for other locations of damage.

You're lucky you don't live in PA. Here, if you have a trailer ball in there and someone hits you, your insurance gets nailed!

 

That's just stupid. Everyone leaves their hitch in down here for this exact reason

 

You fail inspections here too if you have one in there...

That's stupid. Everyone that has a truck down here and even some cars have a ball on. It's too much trouble to remove when every weekend you're pulling a boat or 4 wheeler trailer.

 

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So If they hit your hitch, some how it makes it your fault and your insurance has to pay?

I think I get it though. Insurance companies have probably identified hitches as the reason more trucks are being totaled out from being rear ended, so they get the law changed to protect them and screw the party that isn't at fault for the accident.

 

Thanks to everyone saying glad you're ok. I forgot to mention that me and my two friends with me are ok and the guy who hit me also was ok. A third guy rearended the guy who hit me and his car had similar damage as the car pictured. He took off though so never had a chance to check on him.
