Factory XM Radio???

I have a 2009 SR5, with the XM antenna and XM compatible radio head unit, but no reciever unit, which I know you must buy sperate (Thanks Toyota!) Just wondering if anyone who has the XM hooked up in the factory stereo likes it? Is it worth it?

 

I have the XM radio components that came with the truck and i think it's ok. I am planning on switching out to get Sirius instead as this satellite radio truly has no commercials.

Really it depends on what you like (check out the station layouts online at www.[B]xmradio[/B].com/ or www.[B]sirius[/B].com/). For the money i would Skip XM and go straight to Sirius.

 

I have the factory XM, and I can't live without it now. I've had XM for maybe 3 years, and I've probably listened to FM radio 5 times in that 3 years.

I've never heard Sirius, but I prefer Opie and Anthony over Howard Stern and they're on the XM.

 

girlfriend has it on her honda. We are always playing it. Damn cool. I have a double-din touch screen with my ipod and all my obscure punk rock... so i'm set.. BUT the XM is damn cool

 

What with all the problems with factory radios (and poor sound, IMHO) why not just get an aftermarket one with XM? Or like me, get a portable XM receiver and install cradles in all your vehicles and inside the house. So only have to pay XM for having 1 receiver.

I think you'll find any which way you do it you won't be able to live w/o it anymore. But beware getting on the phone with XM for any reason. They have this prepackaged sales spiel and will go on for 10 minutes if you let them. Better to activate online. Good luck!

 

Have you sampled the JBL system, or just the normal ones? I personally love the BT and XM integration in my 2009 JBL, and it sounds good to me.

 

I may be selling my XM factory kit. I'll know in a couple days. I can let you know if your interested. Being an XM customer for several years sound quality and no commercials is great.

 

i have sirius its great i woulod like to be able to listen to o&a over stern but we both can listen to the jason ellis show on xm 52 sirius 28 check it out

 

No, I didn't see/hear any Tacomas with JBL when I was shopping for mine. But I'm sure JBL has to be a lot better than the std radio. My standard radio just started fritzing out before I replaced it with an aftermarket unit (with bluetooth, etc.). The volume knob would stop working intermittently. I don't think I've seen any reports of you guys with the JBL systems having those issues. So hopefully they will be more reliable than the standard radios.

Ya, I had Sirrius in my previous F150, I do prefer it to XM

 

My 2009 Stock stereo is frapping out too. Dealer has a new one on order under warranty. They didn't even look it, must be a common problem. Now its getting worst. Volume stops working, and the power cuts out with odd error symbols appearing on the display.
