Great story. I'm happy to hear the adults were smart enough to employ some good ideas. Especially after being in SAR for a few months, it is really heartwarming to read Happy Endings to these kinds of stories.

IMO, yes, it is recommended and has cured MANY people's 2WD Diff Growl problems (I say 2WD b/c the issue is only present when in 2wd, and goes away when switched into 4wd. That is the main way to determine if it is the needle-bearing at fault). I plan on installing one either when I replace a CV (if/when needed) or if I ever throw a locker/re-gear the front.

At 8,000 miles, I've got the droning 35mph growl.

I got the bushing and everything else that I need for the job. I'm just waiting for a dry, non-freezing day to do the install - out in my driveway.

 

It's much easier to just install an ARB locker. That takes care of the problem.

Definitely an ARB fanboy.. Took my junk down to Renton this AM - had to make a trip to Seattle anyways. Locker had been pissing air out through the breather for the last few months; compressor was kicking on continuously.

It's an older RD89; forgot whether or not JT's installed the retro'd collar seal when I had it installed, the RD89s been replaced by the

$1,110 RD129 Air Locking Differential

RD129. Turns out the 8.4" diff had a lot more deflection than ARB's engineers anticipated, and was chewing up collar seals. The retrofit fixed that.

Was convinced that mine wasn't retrofitted..

Dug into it last night and found that the o-ring on the bulkhead fitting had rolled, air line wasn't sealing.

Long story short, ARB gave me 5 new o-rings - I fixed it in their parking lot, and now I've got a locker again. Awesome group of guys, they really liked my junk and are going to give me a shout next time they're snow wheeling.

 

What's great about the ecgs bushing, is that you don't have to open up the diff. Just pull the needle bearing with their puller and tap in the bushing.

 

Let's just meet at Kolt's place tomorrow. He is also in Bothwell and I am going to snag his nerf bars until I can afford to buy some sliders from Jake, then the nerf bars go to Jose. As long as you have the stuff, I can always swing by my mom's house just north of thrashers corner and get a 10x10 easy up cover.

I know. You're right tho. The best way to to fix it is with a locker. Someday, I want to do front and rear and regear! Just need mor monies.

I said it once, and I'll say it again. If either diff. gets opened-up, its going to mean a regear and lockers front/back. Not tearing into it more than once.

 

My problem is guns n ammo. I'd probably be much further along then I am on the truck.

 

I am just getting into that now too. I have been watching gunbot for ammo for the last 4 days now. I have only had my gun for the past 5 days. I have to keep reminding myself that I have other things I need to put money into before ammo, like a mortgage, food, electricity and other stupid things like that. At least I won't blow extra money on range fees. Bothell is 25-30 min drive to/from my place and I can legally shoot anytime I want.

I have my next gun figured out, which is Remington 870 blackhawk spec. Thinking the next gun after that is Walter PPQ, but I may look into an AR15 or even AR57. Meanwhile, there will also have to be ammo, truck mods, ammo, improvements around the house, ammo, and anything else that comes up, hopefully not another horse that I pay for.

Also, I am working nights right now too so I didn't plan to hit Kolt's too early. I will be getting home around 1am.

I was at a couple different gun shops today and they still had full retard pricing on everything. They hadn't moved much since the panic, and I think they bought way high, had a bunch of shit on backorder, and got it in after the bottom fell out of the market. It's a buyers market for sure now...I don't think prices will get much lower than they are. (Interwebz prices, local places are still sky high)
