I've been staring at random cars on ebaymotors for a long time. However, this is the first one that literally made my balls tingle a little bit. Where the hell has Jeep come from with their newer designs? I hate Jeep and think they're pieces of shit overall but the new Grand Cherokees are starting to reach Range Rover status IMO

I find it as something I buy for my wife so I can drive it when I want but she can roll around like a bad ass the majority of the time. I'll still always have my truck.

Speaking of my truck, I experienced how badly diesels HATE cold weather this weekend. It was parked in front of my fiance's place for two nights in the sub-20 degree weather. Came out to start it, turned over like the starter was trying to stir molasses. No dice. It drained my batteries before the thing would fire.

Bought a MAGNETIC block heater. Ever heard of that? Works like a charm. I can reach through the wheel well and stick it on the massive oil pan. Now I just leave it on in any weather under 40 degrees to keep the old bastard happy.

 

yea the cold plagued a lot of our work trucks. The fuel gelled up a bit, started and ran like crap for about 20 minutes. It happens lol

 

With the heater on the oil pan the truck starts up like it's 50 degrees out. Still smokes for about 10 minutes but the clatter isn't nearly as dramatic. The 7.3 is still a loud ass mofo when it starts up cold though.

 

no kidding, my work truck is a '96 7.3 and she sounds like hell warming up lol. damn truck is near 300k and rolling along lol

 

Ever heard of a fuel temperature regulator for diesel? I heard about it a few years back and it essentially heats the fuel before sending it into the motor.
Were the glow plugs not warming up enough or just too thick of fuel?

 

Combination of older batteries, not running the glow plugs long enough and still running relatively thick oil for winter (15W-30). I've heard of guys going to lighter weight stuff in cold weather. But since Oregon doesn't really get truly cold weather and I don't daily drive the truck I haven't worried about it

 

i think on your generation of truck the glow plugs stay on up to 2 minutes, even tho the light on dash is off. IT may help when its cold to double up on the plug before the start to see if it helps a cold start.

 

Yeah I've heard that. Even though they claim the light is sensitive to the conditions, that's complete bull shit. It goes off just as fast in the summer as it did in the 18 degree weather.

 

I'll turn my block heaters on anytime I'm not going to be running the main engine for more than 12 hours. Even in the Summer..

Of course, I get to play with engines that are a little bigger.

We took a bad 30,000 Gallon delivery in Dutch Harbor this Summer - I was changing filters every two hours, and cleaning my centrifuge every day.

 

The cold caused all kinds of problems for our container cranes. Hydraulic systems sluggish, motor brakes frozen. Old circuit boards acting up. Terminal30 had a 13.8 kVAC trailing cable frozen in its trench.

 

You should checkout Outdoor Emporium sometime. They have very good pricing. I buy all my ammo there. Of course it's convenient for me.

 

Wait why doesn't your 7.3 have a plug in block heater from the factory? I though all diesels had them? Should be behind a headlight curled up

 

Where is that at? I am working nights on Rainier Ave in Seattle right now, and I have been going down 405 to 90 to get there so not so much stuff out of the way to work.

 

Easy! It's on 4th Ave. stay on 90 to the end. Right on 4th. 1/4 mile or so on the right. Right after Filsons.

I'm working nights as well wed - sat. Either 3-3 or 4-4. So I go shooting in Bellevue before work. And will stop by OE before work as well.
