For those of you who have painted your stock wheels, how well has it held up? i'm interested in painting mine, but I don't want to be repainting them every year or 2 because it doesn't hold up.

I just took some painted stock wheels off my truck. After almost 3 years and ~35K miles they look pretty good. There's a couple of good knicks where the tire had to be taken off for a repair, but it would touch up easily.

I used a spray can of Duplicolor wheel coating. I sanded the wheels down and gave them a coat of primer, then two coats of the wheel coating.

That was my plan. I was going to add a coat or 2 of clear over the top as well.

I bought some FJ wheels and painted them with Duplicolor's wheel paint and engine paint (wheel paint doesn't come in gloss black). I painted them months before I got new tires so they had plenty of time to cure. So far I'd say they're holding up OK. I've had to touch up a few chips but nothing major. I think the key is lots of prep and work slowly.
