I would like to see another company make tailgate locks, pop n lock wouldn't be much of a competition or dynolock either.

im pretty much ready to cancel my order. the only reason i didnt get the dyno lock is because everyone said it has plastic parts. so now the only thing holding the handle when locked is a piece of plastic, correct?

I put my PL5300 in today. It is not as shabby as what people are saying. If you think the Pop & Lock is shabby, then you probably think the Toyota stock one is shabby also.

im more worried about someone pulling hard on the handle when locked and breaking the lock portion of it.

Pulling the handle hard when it ls locked does nothing, the mechanism does not work that way. You can pull the handle with it locked, the handle pulls all the way and nothing happens, no strain on the mechanism.

hmm well I like that, the one in my previous truck would not allow the handle to move, if you pull hard you would either break the handle or the lock mechanism.

thanks for that information. from the picture it looks like that little plastic tab at the top is what holds the handle down when locked.

I had a Pop & Lock in my 08 Prerunner and there was a strain on the mechanism when the handle was pulled if locked. This one is different.

Below is the stock handle that came out. The main part that moves is metal. I just snapped off a couple of pics of the handle that I took out.

Thanks for the pics Denny. It would appear that the OEM pull handle mechanism is plastic also. If so I am curious how long Toyota has been using plastic tailgate handles. The Tacos are renowned to last forever. I just wonder how long plastic handles like this will last?

Well, my 09 stock Tacoma has a plastic handle, My 08 Prerunner that I traded in had one also ( I put in a pop & lock), which means that 2nd generation Tacomas (05 on) have plastic handles. We need input from 1st generation guys to see if their Tacomas have plastic handles also.

I'm satisfied with the look of it.

I like how the current camera is hidden. I can't tell for sure but it looks like the lens is more visible with the P&L. I read that TN post and hope it doesn't affect the angle on the camera.

Not sure on the 1st gen Tacomas, but my first-year 2000 Tundra that I recently traded for my '09 Tacoma had plastic trim around the handle, and I think the handle itself may have been plastic also (can't remember 100%). The trim cracked in half above the handle sometime last year, but it didn't affect the handle or the lock. BTW, the Tundras have always had locking handles.

actually I feel perfectly fina about it....I always try and get the best price I can and if that cuts out you or someone else well that's not my issue....you can't come on here and blame people for wanting the best price...if you have an issue you should take it up with P&L....and you're relating it to putting you out of business....you just said you make little to no money on this so it is NOT hurting your business to the point of layoff, financial troubles....and quite frankly this is what free enterprise is all about...when you get down to it in actuality ANY group buy or even sale is unfair according to your logic....why should I get a cheaper price from truckalterations in a group buy or sale than someone else later in the year...thas not fai to the consumer???? but it is allowed business practice that is in your best interest....so to is this scenario.....everyone has choices and if it is not working for you then you need to change your business model to turn your profits around....design your own lock, patent it and sell it...they developed it and have rights to it and thus can sell THEIR product via any means they see fit....business is business....now they probably had a contract with you and is this practice a little questionable...probably...but you have choices (of which you and others have exercised)...so lets drop the sour grapes and move on to to direct your concerns to P&L and leave them out of here.
