Anyone feel like their Tacoma rides squirrely on highy?

I just bought a DC Tacoma Sport Prerunner and I have noticed that when I drive it on highway at around 65-75 mph, it feels as if the truck is being blown all over the road. I initially thought it was due to gusty wind but today the wind speed was only 4 mph. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions. I did check my tire pressures and all were at recommended 29-30 PSI.

 

If you bought it used, it would be wise to check the Sway bar attachments, the ball joints, the UCA joints, the shocks etc.

 

4 mph was the constant wind speed, what was it gusting to if anything?

 

roll your windows down, if its the gusts...it helps amazingly

 

i have to agree with this. in my double cab.........the wind plays havoc on interstate driving....open all the windows, and its alot better. its all about the aerodynamics of the tacoma....which is essentially a brick on wheels.

 

The truck was bought brand new from a Toyota dealership.

 

There were no gusts. I confirmed this first by watching tree tops and then called home and asked son to check on internet.

 

even if there are no gusts i still feel it doing it, and its the wind...its a tough going 80mph with the windows down though

 

What are you comparing it to?

In other words, what have you been driving to this point?

Car? Truck? Van?...

 

it says he has an H3 and i would think thatd b worse

 

Mine does it too its just the aerodynimics ...

 

My H3 is rock solid on the highway and also a heavier vehicle.

Sounds like I am not alone with the ride characteristics of the Tacoma on the highway. I will just need to accept it and get used to it.

 

Get better suspension, you'd be amaze on how it handles a lot better.

 

Both my H3 and my previous truck (laugh all you want ), Honda Ridgeline are very nice riding vehicles on the highway.

 

I call BULLSHIT on that. the tacoma is pretty damn aerodynamic. in 4x4 terms. its got a heavily slopped windsheild and plenty of round edges.

also, my jeep actually is a brick on wheels.

anyone ask if its lifted yet?

a little bit of cheap lift can throw everything off.

 

Mine does it. Eventually you'll get used to it. Seems like my '09 has gotten better with time and mileage. Plan on having my alignment checked/done at 10k here soon.

 

Did you buy the Tacoma as a recovery vehicle for the H3?

 

The Ridgeline is a station wagon.

 

and the H3 is really close mechanically to an ISUZU D-max... which is a pretty badass 4x4. soo...

can it really be that the tacoma cant handle highway speeds?!?!?!

 

No, that's what the FJ Cruiser I am looking at is for . Unfortunately the FJ doesn't have a front bumper as it imploded. All kidding aside, don't knock an H3s wheeling capabilities until you drive one.

I really wouldn't mind owning an FJ now considering Hummer's uncertain future and near extinction.
