Amp not turning on

Hey guys I just got my sub amp and headunit hooked up but the amp is not turning on the headunit works perfectly. Am I supposed to turn the amp on manually or is it supposed to automaticly turn on with the headunit? Its an alpine 450

 

you have to run a turn on wire from the headunit to the amp... then it will turn on automatically- it's sometimes labeled amp or power antenna on the back of the headunit

 

check amp fuse
check all the wires connected to amp as well as head unit wires connected to amp
check ground
check positive fuse

 

first step is to get a volt meter and make sure the power wire is hot and you are getting some small voltage from the turn on wire... if not then start checking fuses

 

I did still nothing

How do I know if the fuse is bad? I connected the positive terminal while the key was in the on position could I have blown the fuse through this?

 

you get a meter as someone already suggested and start checking to see where you have power. You could have a bad fuse, even if it does not look blown. It can separate at the end where you cannot see it.

 

Thanks for the help guys both the fuses in the amp were blown, replaced them last night and have been blasting the hard hitting songs all day
